Wow. I did not expect the original aspect ratio on the 4K would be the main reason not to buy it.

And people here begging for Breaking Bad on 4K on top of it.

That is Bloo ray doot coom.

Oh well. Don't have 4K so sticking with my DVDs. I agree with the comments that the 16:9 framing is awkward. At least it sounds like the extras are going to be the same so far.

Sony wanted to please everyone and sell well and actually they got it wrong, majority of people buying on bluray or 4k will want OAR. I understand that majority of streamers would like those black bars to disappear.

Maybe they figured 4K buyers are more of an enthusiast crowd, and thus more likely to care about OAR.. and Blu buyers are more mainstream consumers and less likely to care about that sort of thing. Like you said.. don't want the black bars.

As long as they have the transfers of both, and they're on-demand pressings, it would be nice if you had the choice of both aspect ratios in both formats.

Anyway, there's plenty of other things in life to be outraged about I guess.

As i explained in the 4K forum, none of this is true. Both formats are basically enthusiast obscure formats. Especially at this point. Trying to make up and say there’s a difference in buying audience is nonsensical.

Do you see the list of independent labels at the top of this forum? Yeah, ok. Since when did mainstream consumers care about these types of movies? Stop trying to explain away Sony’s dumb decision and obvious up selling.

What a weird way to market this. Then again; Sony also did that half-assed Three Stooges boxset too.

I've watched the whole series on Netflix cropped and didn't enjoy anything any less. The compositions look slightly more cramped sometimes, and there are a couple cases where something important to a shot is gone (I seem to remember the episode about the hole being a great example of this). But, mostly, Seinfeld was a very pedestrian-looking sitcom.

So, it's not nearly as bad as something visually dense like say, the classic Simpsons in 16x9 where gags are actually cropped off and you're missing artwork (though with The Simpsons, you can actually opt to stream that in 4x3 - I wish ALL services did that for these kinds of situations). That said, I still prefer the 4x3 DVDs, and I'm going to be buying the 4K for the right aspect ratio.
The Pothole episode, yes. I think that was the only egregious example of missing picture (you only see the top slice of the pothole in 1.78). Were there others? The video referenced above was missing cookware, but that's meh to me.

Teri Hatcher's Cleavage was missing i think aswell in the episode with it as the plot point.

Merely an off-the-cuff speculation (aka GUESS) why maybe THEY went the way they did. I'm not proclaiming it as fact or anything. What, you know exactly what's going on in their meetings and nobody else gets to say sh*t? K.

Placed an Amazon order for the UHD (for now), though I wish I knew how limited it is.

Does anybody know the right email so that I can contact Sony Pictures? Maybe if I contact them, I can ask them to give us the original aspect ratio on the Blu-rays. It never hurts to ask and make our voice heard.

I'd like to give it a try if any of you can help me know the proper person to contact.

It’s a poor reasoning and defense that shouldn’t even be entertained.

It's very smart. People who wouldn't have bothered to buy the 4K will now buy it because they want OAR.

They'll probably just do a 4X3 Blu-ray later on to please whoever is left that didn't want to buy either of these two releases. It's a good way to maximise the 4K sales.

Make people buy both sets that is why. I am just getting the 4K version.

What's the source for "Manufactured on Demand" that you're "claiming" it to be?

Doubtful they will be "Manufactured On Demand" discs at all for such a massive set

Everything sold through MovieZyng is Manufactured on Demand as they're the retail arm of Allied Vaughn, a MOD company. This just means they're not making tens of thousands of these at a time, but smaller batches.

Yeah, that's sort of like how WB released the 1990 "IT" (ABC TV-Movie)

The DVD is 1:78.1 and the 4K is 1.33.1 (i guess they preserved the "viewing experience" to how 'someone' watched it on a 4:3 TV in 1990........but it didn't have side bars back then

And with that "IT" 1990 4K... it is identical to the DVD "version" from uhhh 2002... the TV version had some sort of extended or removed scenes... and they were not on the DVD either. The VHS had those scenes only.
