You and I both! Although, I'm pretty sure I'm going to wait a few weeks for the physical, I'd be lying if I didn't say I wasn't tempted to buy the digital to start watching Wicked whenever I want. I saw the sing-along earlier this week, which was a lot of fun. I really liked singing along to songs like Popular and Defying Gravity in a theater with other fans. My fifth time seeing it and it's still my favorite film of the 2020s so far, I really just can't get enough!

Also Happy New Year, everyone! If you're feeling down right now, just remember that we are now in the same year Wicked: For Good releases!

Is the Giftset the only way to get the cover art with the shadows of the two witches forming a W against the green backdrop? I'm not loving the standard case art, but definitely don't have the want/room for that giant box with bookends inside.

Yeah I did. I didn't even know that theatrical poster or the edit existed.

While I'm not sure whether or not it was an intentional slight of Erivo, her reaction was just...oof.

I really wanted the walmart steel book I checked last week out of stock. I honestly am surprised I'd have to check for the 4K version that would be on sale and sell out a week or two after it's theatrical debut.

Wal-Mart steelbooks always go in and out of stock before it's released. I'm sure you will get another shot at it.

Thanks for the info, will definitely repeatedly check the bookmark until release. If no luck, I guess the slipcover standard 4K will do.

I will likely get a digital copy of part 1 for now and wait for the inevitable 2-film 4K set in 2026. Hopefully by then, they will have better/more
editions overall. It's too bad that no studios (at least in the US) take the anime approach and offer a slipbox/case for at least some releases.

Digital copy is loaded. All the special features announced on the disc are here. The Sing A Long version plays in 4K HDR10+. The Atmos is incredible for a digital copy.

This actually might hold me over til the inevitable complete collection set hit sometime in 2026.

My hopes for a truly Ultimate Oz set that celebrates everything that Oz has to offer and will surpass my Laserdisc Ultimate '39 Oz:

Wicked Part 1 (UHD and BD discs)
Wicked Part 2 (UHD and BD discs)
The Wizard of Oz (UHD and BD discs, possible because Warner and Universal have a shared distributor in SDS)
Exclusive Bonus Disc (BD)
Soundtracks of Oz and Wicked (BD-Audio single disc, '39, Broadway Wicked and Movie Wicked)

Hardcover copy of the original Wizard of Oz and Wicked novels
Theater play script for Wicked (paperback)
Publicity stills for all three included films
Fold-out poster for Wicked Part 2

I'd gladly spend $120 on such a set.

If The Wizard Of Oz has lossless or uncompressed mono on both discs this will be the most shameless double dip in my life.

If Universal and WB did collaborate on an Oz boxset, it could also include both screen versions of The Wiz, all the non-MGM adaptations included in the 1939 movie's Emerald Edition, Rankin/Bass' Tales of The Wizard of Oz (not available on DVD) and Return to Oz, the Tom and Jerry crossovers, and Boomerang's Dorothy and The Wizard of Oz (Seasons 2-3 unavailable on DVD), among others.
Sometimes it also surprises me that The Wizard of Oz in Concert: Dreams Come True never received a DVD or Blu-ray release.

It won't be probably because there's a lot of overlap with the 45-minute "Making of" documentary. That said, I would've liked for that special to have been included partly for archival purposes (I don't trust Peacock to have it forever) and partly because the hosting segments with the cast are super charming, especially a moment where they play back a message they left for themselves on day one of filming. Hopefully when the inevitable mega set containing both parts comes, we get a bonus disc containing this and other content.

On Apple, it’s HDR10+. On MA, it is indeed just HD.
