Scream was great with extras, but even when they were new I wished they would do more new transfers. In that regard, I think Arrow and VS (and now Kino) have always been ahead of them.

Surprised they couldn't get Harlin to do a new commentary not like he's very busy these days.

Yeah, can't say the extras are lighting my hair on fire here -- Davis was enthusiastic about the film in her book and Jackson routinely cites it as his favorite of his own movies; together with Harlin approving the transfer, you'd think we could've gotten interviews with all three of them. Still, whatever. I'll take anything rather than the nothing on the BD and the 4K upgrade is certainly worth it all by itself.

There's being excited about whatever movie and being excited when some boutique label they've never heard of aks for an interview. There's a reason why most label releases of massively popular movies - or cult items with massively popular actors - have to resort to new interviews with ancillary figures and below-the-line talent, it's because the main players aren't interested.

Sam Jackson recorded an interview with AnimEigo for their Shogun Assassin DVD because he was such a fan of the movie. Seems like he would be willing to contribute, but maybe not. The market has changed.

DVD? How long ago was that, a quarter of a century or so? No Stallone or Snipes on Arrow's Demolition Man. No Arnie on Conan the Librarian. No Vin Diesel on Chronicles of Riddick. And so on. Maybe they're not even trying for them, I don't know, but I do recall people like the Kino Insider saying that they tried to reach out to whatever stars on whichever releases and were flatly rebuffed. Basically I don't expect any above the line acting talent to comment for a boutique release today, but then I'm not bovvered about new extras in general these days. Get someone like Charlie de Lauzirika involved and it's worth it, but the usual buffet of identikit extras involving interviews with the tea lady and the costume designer's second cousin - or worse, "academics" - bore me to tears.

My mistake, it was the 2010 Blu-ray not the DVD. Point is Sam Jackson seems like he'd know about Arrow. The issue often is the handlers saying no before the request even gets to the talent, but the talent would probably agree if they were actually asked.

Talent would also like to be paid in some cases so those costs can factor into not asking talent to do new interviews/commentaries.

hahahaha, with you there!

I rarely even watch bonus features anymore, I have too much of a backlog, I just want the movie.

Was hoping Arrow would do this after they announced Deep Blue Sea. I always wondered why in the trailer there's a shot of flaming flipping cars from the bridge explosion that I swear is not in the final movie. Seems weird they would cut out some cool action shots. It's at like 2:09

It's funny - I was almost going to make a joke about how they could likely get someone like the person who played Davis' daughter in this movie. I hadn't looked at the list yet. LOL. There she is!

That's typically the kind of participants they'll get - the people who may not be super active (if active at all) in the industry who love to talk about their time in the industry.

Some of them have been pretty good, too, because they have no problem being candid.
