I blind-bought the Kino release and really enjoyed it.

I was particularly struck by its intro; it's masterful how this film immediately starts building suspense -- no boring, forced exposition or flashy gimmicks. Just a smooth, confident, gripping build in interest & tension from the get-go, with excellent pacing. Maybe one of the best First Acts I've seen in a film.

I'll probably have to get the Arrow.

Early delivery from Arrow:

I have watched this movie before, but it has been more than 10 years since I did. I remember bits of it, but not much. So I am really looking forward to revisiting this once again.

My copy arrived from Rarewaves today. Since HMV stopped their 20% off cheat code, Rarewaves will no doubt be getting a bit of extra business thanks to the occasional 10% off plus points, and early deliveries certainly help.

Would this Arrow release offer anything better than the Kino for the main feature?

The KL version for this one looked good and didn't have audio issues from what I remember, so you might get a slight bump in encoding at best. I might still pick this up when the standard will be on sale, but it's not really an urgency.

Yeah it's odd lately. We went from stuff like Texas Chainsaw and Fear and Loathing lasting for months to now stuff selling out before pre-order time is even over. I don't know if Arrow are making less or import shops are buying less or what. Might just be a blip I guess, or they're saying sold out when more are coming.

Regardless (ignore my original comments on the post), the "mono" is terrible.

Managed to place and order for this from rarewaves. Excited to see what Arrow can do with this. Should have better encoding than the Kino.

I’m surprised nobody has thrown any thoughts out on this one yet. I gave it a watch on Saturday night and it looks very similar to the Kino (from the little I remember of it) , it looks good but there’s something just not quite right with it, whether it’s softness in the source and the stocks of the time, or some kind of mild processing - motion just seems a LITTLE bit unnatural on occasion.. I can’t remember whether the Kino has the same look/feel to it, hopefully someone with both can compare.

Im going to assume it’s in the master supplied to Kino/Arrow. I imagine if Arrow were doing the work themselves it would look and feel slightly better. I’d love to hear what others think of it.

And, what a film, it’s one of my favourites and gets better with every watch.

Mine was just dropped off this morning. Might give it a watch tonight, I've been on a 1970s movies set in NYC kick lately.

HMV seem all over the shop recently, wouldn't read into it too much.
