I purchased Forbidden Planet due to the poll. I love all the other movies listed (finding it impossible to pick a favorite amongst them), but for some reason I don't believe I've ever seen Forbidden Planet. Looking forward to watching it this week.

For quite some time I've remembered watching a movie on Svengoolie and really liking it but I couldn't recall many details. This is the movie! Mystery solved which is great and now I need to give this another watch.

A Matter of Life and Death (1946)

This is a gorgeous looking film. Sony has done it proud with the restoration and it's available on Criterion.
The story is about a young RAF officer and a young American girl who are in love. They briefly met or rather talked briefly before he jumped out of his burning plane sans parachute and because of a snafu in heaven he lived when he shouldn't have. He then has to justify why his life should continue on Earth to a heavenly court.
The scenes on Earth are in colour, while those in heaven black and white. This film is probably my favourite early fantasy movie, and Criterion has put out a great bluray. Highly recommended.

I’m old enough to remember seeing this when it played in theatre back in 1982. Was so happy when it finally came to HD in 4K no less. And to see Nick from the old western TV show the Big Valley back then was cool.
