Reservoir Dogs. Aside from looking generally poor, the home video versions of the movie are really bright compared to a 35mm print I viewed practically back to back with the disc; makes the movie look cheap and dingy.

I agree, but maybe that was intentional? A clean and perfect world? you know... literally.

But yes, it looks like crap and I noticed something "wrong" right away...

Yeah, I'm not sure what drugs the reviewer was taking when he gave it a 4.5/5.
The image also looks stretched horizontally for some reason.

As mentioned: The Fugitive, The Terminator, Goodfellas, Gladiator, Reservoir Dogs, Hoosiers

I didn't see anyone mention: Evil Dead II

a few others significant enough to merit a new transfer/restoration:

Fargo
Big Lebowski (i know it's not out yet, but Universal is guaranteed to use the crummy HDDVD master)
Ran
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Silence of the Lambs

Silence of the Lambs?

I thought it looked pleasing, it didn't distract from the story at all, but it was soft looking.
Agree wholeheartedly about TGTBTU.

Perhaps it's wrong to lump it in with some of the crap I mentioned, but I think some movies have attained the level of popularity where it's hard to accept the "good enough" mentality on the part of the studio. With a movie like that, Best Picture and all, I think there's enough reason to go all-out, get the filmmakers involved, and make a fancy modern transfer a la Minority Report.

Well I can't argue against that, the movie certainly deserves it, though I'm not complaining either of what we have.

In short, about 95% of movies that were originally HD-DVD exclusive (Warner Bros etc) and their lame 10-15mbps transfers

"Superman Returns", one of many movies to have had the misfortune of being transfered during the HD-Dud era, is really REALLY bad

It looks like a DVD upscaled to 720p with lots of artificats and interference. The sound was terrible as well, running at only 2 or 3 hundred kbs

its a train wreck to ppl who appreciate blu ray, and want stuff to look close to source material, without any artifacts or digital treatment, eww, dnr and ee
you can even notice some ee in the imax shots, blahh

Yeah I've been debating wether the "upgrade" from DVD would be worth it for me, though the last part of the movie was shot with 35 mm cameras, maybe I'll get it if it's cheap enough.
