Spartans usually TRAINED in the nude. They didn't go to battle in the nude.
Blu Dog I stand corrected. I just read a qoute from Entertainment Weekly stating

"300 author Frank Miller commented on this alteration in an Entertainment Weekly interview, "I took those chest plates and leather skirts off of them for a reason. I wanted these guys to move and I wanted 'em to look good. ... Spartans, in full regalia, were almost indistinguishable except at a very close angle."

But now that we've cleared this up I still stand by the film in that is an awesome bluray experience and movie... unlike Troy for instance? but that's just me.

As a VERY longtime Bond fan, I think CR was the most Bond like Bond movie since 1969. It was the Bond films of the 70s and the Pierce Brosnan movies that did not feel like Bond movies to me.

It was actually the movie that drove me into buying a Blu Ray player.

agreed. casino royale hands down the best bond movie since goldfinger. i own all 21 and the unofficial one as well...i have to say CR finally brought bond back to his roots. the brosnan movies, while enjoyable, were....let's be honest...terribly repetitive, unbelieavable, tacky, absurd, gadgety, should i go on?

the only guy better than craig i think could have been clive owen, who was considered. i was disappointed at first they didnt take owen, but once i saw craig in action, i quickly forgot

I have always loved action & war movies although i hated this movie for these reasons.

1 - the 300 are barely armored (bare chests) so they wouldn't of lasted 2 seconds
2 - there is only 2 main action scenes with still only around 40 enemy dieing in each scene..
3 - the constant slow motion during kills ruins the genre and makes it seem unreal
4 - the sky looks fake
5 - the enemy also looks make believe or similar to Quake 2 enemies
6 - the leader is ALWAYS SHOUTING when he speaks?
7 - the storytellings seem unreal and mythological.
8 - i don't believe the traitor was really a hunchback again unreal.
9 - the mandatory grain again not real to look at (resembles a dream).

anyway goes from a war genre to a fantasy/mythological film. why couldn't it been like Troy.
Ummmmmmmmm.........ummmmmmmmmmmm.........wow. You sincerely don't know much about the Battle of Thermopylae, or-well, even history. Spartans wore next to nothing, often times many of them went into battle with nothing on but a shield. About 6,000 Greeks held off an army of 200,000 Persians. And yes, there is evidence backing that claim up. While 300 isn't factual, it most certainly is based off of a real battle.

The storytellings seem unreal and mythological? Ummmmm, maybe because it is? We generally define a graphic novel (i.e a comic book) as "unreal." I'm at a loss as to why any of those reasons make you hate this movie.

wow! i cannot believe how many people don't like 2001. That movie is one of the best films ever made. If you don't understand it go to kubrick2001.com and it explains things better, then rewatch it. The PQ and AQ are great and the movie is one of the greatest films ever made, just look at AFIs Top100 movies of all time, 2001 is like 15th!

IT'S A COMIC BOOK MOVIE. Anyone who doesn't understand that it is a comic book movie has no right to complain if they didn't like it b/c it was or wasn't this or that type of other movie. If you know what to expect you can appreciate for what it is or know that you won't enjoy it and not waste your money. This proves that ignorance is not bliss, its a hole in your pocket.

lol I love how you broke it down

Funny how some really hate Sunshine, I thought it was a good flick and a great purchase, and I'm not even a big sci-fi fan.

Now 300 is something I regret owning, I watched it once, it will never be viewed again. Most overrated film ever, not just blu-ray related.

I feel like I am the only person on the planet who Can not see Clive Owen as James Bond. He looks the part and is British, but he is sort of drollish and does not seem to have the right personality or charisma. People thought Timothy Dalton was dour, I think Clive Owen would make Timothy Dalton look like Roger Moore.

Some of that information is incorrect. Spartans were like most Greeks soliders at that time. Hoplites

A hoplite typically had a bronze breastplate (muscled armor), a bronze helmet with cheekplates, as well as greaves and other armour, plus a bowl-shaped shield called an aspis which measured roughly 1 meter in diameter. Hoplites' armour was around 50-60 pounds.

The primary weapon was a spear around 2.7 meters in length called a doru. Hoplites also carried a short sword called a xiphos. The short sword was a secondary weapon, after their spear broke.

The outfit of a Spartan hoplite was not very different from a Athenian Hoplite.
Most noticable differences are the Spartan symbol, and red cape. (which was not worn during battle)

They did train nude though.

Quote:
The superior weaponry, strategy, and bronze armor of the Greek hoplites and their phalanx again proved their worth one year later when Sparta assembled at full strength, and led a Greek alliance against the Persians at Plataea

I was not impressed by the quality of 300.

I know the grainy look was part of the movie but damn.

Planet Earth, definitely. I am all for gorgeous scenery and nature films, but it is completely off putting...instead of letting the nature be front and center, it cares more about its cameras and the budget and the green/eco message they're trying to push...I am as far from "green" as someone can be and it just turned me off completely

Give me some national geographic or steve irwin films on Blu over Planet Earth any day...maybe if "Planet Earth" had some city scapes and some ancient civilizations..it might be more interesting

Oh come on! AFI looks at things from a certain perspective. It doesn't account for everything. You don't need to justify yourself with an AFI claim. Likewise, you don't need kubrick2001.com to understand it or to back you.

Some people are grabbed by 2001 some aren't. Many great films are obscure and not necessarily "understood" by a large popular audience, yet these films don't "go away" or sink into oblivion. How many (what percentage of) people have read Joyce's "Ulysses"? IMO 2001 speaks for itself, as Kubrick intended it. A hard pill for some to swallow, but a fundamental building block of cinema nevertheless.
Let the ignorant lay down in their own ignorance.

I thought 3:10 to Yuma wasn't too great. I love Christian Bale and Russell Crowe as actors but overall this was a stinker in my opinion. I know this isn't on blu,not yet anyway, but I am so damn sick of seeing thread after thread about Transformers. Sure the special effects were nice, but overall the movie I thought wasn't as great as everyone made it out to be. I'll stick to the original animated movie, that I hope we get stateside.

I thought Transformers was OK, for teenagers maybe. It was a good production, but I'm not a teenager. It was worth a viewing just to see what the fuss was about, but it didn't grab me.

I'm actually the complete opposite. I tend to get so lost in a good movie that I forget to be wowed by the visuals. If the movie sucks, then I don't care what it looks like, I'm not gonna spend the entire movie length going "wow that looks great" and completely negating the film itself... that's not what movies are for. Blu-ray is essential because you're viewing the film in the visual and audio quality that it was most likely projected in in theaters (better if it was 4k, worse if the Blu-ray transfer sucked). DVD for me is almost unwatchable now, as it's like putting on one of my older pair of glasses, there's just no fine detail to be found.
