If it were me, I and I had about $2,500 for a PS3 and Speakers/Receiver, here's what I would get...... and keep in mind, everyone has their own brand loyalties etc. and you'll get numerous suggestions.....

PS3 Buy it at a Sony Style store and if you sign up for their CC you get $100 off..... Either way, Budget $500 for this.

Speakers. Get five M-1's They're satellite speakers, they're $200 each.

http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/displa...nfid=821&sc=ht

O.K. Now you need a Sub...... May I suggest...... this Velodyne

http://www.amazon.com/Velodyne-DPS-1...5865119&sr=8-4

10" sub, and PLENTY of power to give you some nice bass for music and it goes low enough to make your movie experience quite nice......

So that's another $400, so that leaves about $600 left in your budget.....

You can get the Onkyo 705 receiver (which is a crowd favorite around here, and although I don't have one, and never heard one, it has all the options you need)

http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-SR705...5865292&sr=1-3

That's $583 wow.... leaves $17 in your budget which is more than enough to go to MONOPRICE.COM and buy two HDMI cables......

ALL SET, within your budget, and you'll have great sound.

I have auditioned those speakers (I don't have them, I have other B&W speakers though) and I can tell you for a fact, they are some of the nicest Satellite style speakers I've ever heard.

Get ready for an in-flux of suggestions. If you want to save a couple hundred bucks, the onkyo 605 receiver (get the silver one to save some more money, same receiver, just different color) and you'll still have all the options you need.

Good luck..... buying audio is like any other addiction though!!!!!

This particular thread is about Bose, not anything else. There are over 100,000 other threads on this site that don't discuss Bose, so if you don't like this one, feel free to move on.

This article deals with the scientific testing of the frequency response of Bose speakers, measured by Sound and Vision in an anechoic chamber. It's the information that EVERY OTHER MANUFACTURER provides the consumer, but Bose does not and it is rather obvious why.

When you finally upgrade, you'll probably come to the same conclusions and will freely recommend to people to steer clear from Bose speakers, until then if you enjoy what you have that's great.

Read post #52 You seem to only focus on the negative posts. If you're happy with them, that's all that matters.

Aren't speakers kind of subjective?

If you like the sound of the Bose, buy them. There are really nice sets from other brands that are cheaper, but listen to them first. I never really trust "spec" numbers. Always listen to the speakers, and always see the TV.

Yes, you are correct.

I am buying it PS3 in Delaware (I am in philly). So really, I have 2100 for speakers, and receiver

Cable?!?

Please elaborate?? they dont come with cables?

If you mean HDMI, I am getting from monoprice.com.

And to answer some questions, I went to BB magolia center. I listened to some of them, and sorry, quite frankly, I havent noticed a huge difference. The ones that I did notice a difference are way out of budget...

See my above post....... if you've got $2,100 you can put a formidable system together...... I got my nephew that Velodyne as a gift, and it's pretty sweet. and with $2,100 I'd stay away from home-theater-in-a-box deals..... they're mostly selling "convenience" it's always better to shop around and piece together a system.

Copied.

Regarding BOSE, I should say, i went to the BOSE store, and listened and the audio was not bad. But then again, whenI went to BB, the audio wasnt so bad, even with a Samsung $400 HT.Thats why I am beginning to think.. is the "brand" thats important or the audio. If it is the audio, I should just get this $400 and I could spent that extra $1600 on blu-rays.. haha

^^

I am liking the Paradigm, so I am gonna go tomorrow to a local dealer and check them out.

well, I learned a lot about Bose today. So, I think I am not getting the $2000 set as I was originally planning to.

a few years ago i had bose acoustimass. wasnt happy with the sound. i sold them and bought infinity primus speakers and a velodyne sub. i couldnt believe the difference! i spent less money on the new set up than what i paid for bose. and now i have a sound that is "real" sounding. sold my onkyo nr 801 and got a sr705 and it just gets better with lossless sound.

i really wish people who have bose stop being so angry and defensive because what people are trying to say actually have merit. if your happy fine. everone is entitled to thier opinion. even "bose haters". but i, as a past bose owner, urge those that have them to at least test out some systems. you may be surprised to what you hear.

BTW, thanks for your post/recommendation.

Key word you mentioned here is Convenience.

I was planning to just get one of those HT in a box deals where I can just connect and enjoy...

But now, I'm thinking otherwise.

PS. I am liking the M1 after reading through B&W sites. I am going over there tomorrow and check it out! There is a authorized deale just 5 minute drive away from me!!

Spec are that, there is No 'if's', 'and's' or 'but's' about it. Everyone's hearing is diffrent, so you look at the spec to see how your hearing matchs up to the real deal & you always compair!!!

Like buying a new computer, it will be faster then a computer from 2 years ago, but you have to look at the specs to see what is under the hood, just because it runs faster does not mean that it is a good computer.

I see your point and I kind of agree, however, you used a bad example. The specs of a pair of speakers maybe different, and there should be an intended result regarding those specs, but I can still hear something different than you do from that same pair of speakers. The computer should be the same for everybody. Speakers are merely producing a sound, it is up to the listener to process that sound and determine if it sounds good.

I'm sorry but there is absolutely no standards by which the frequency response generated by the Bose can be considered "good", not when 50% of what the average human hears is not reproduced.

so i take it the specs described in the article is the reason why that magazines the sell speakers (like crutchfield) dont show the freq. response of bose like all the other speakers?

No it is not. Home theater, picture and sound, is all about sensory enjoyment. Everybody's senses are different. I am not disputing that Bose speakers are bad. They simpley do not sound as good as some brands. Those specs reflect that. There is a place for those specs. Those numbers do carry some importance, but to blindly, or more appropriatly, deafly, say that those numbers are the be all end all, is disregarding the speakers performance. The eye and ear test are the most important. It is the reason why you test drive cars and why stores have displays with TVs and speakers.
