That's right, the man who completely changed the way that the public -- and filmakers -- think about movies, is a retarded idiot. New technologies are so stupid... we should have stuck with black & white, narrow screens, and papier mache special effects, right?

Folks, Lucas bashing is not only tired, it's irrational. For every blowhard that thinks Lucas should have left the old films alone and never made the new ones, there's ten more people that totally disagree, yet you guys have the audacity to think you speak for everyone. The original artist retouching his own work is not the same thing as Ted Turner taking pastel crayons to old prints. The special editions are hardly different from the originals, they're just a little better. I will never understand why so many people got so bent out of shape over the inclusion of some updated effects that were beyond his original means and budget, but within his original vision. The visceral reaction to cgi is, to say the least, unjustifiable, obstinate Luddism. What, do you prefer claymation and muppets? Releasing a 3D version doesn't hurt anybody, you don't have to buy it if you don't want it. Lucas, Jackson, and Cameron all confronted a cinema conference a couple years ago about the industry's refusal to advance their support of 3-D and digital, while filmmakers themselves are making many of their blockbusters with 3D capability (LOTR was shot with 3D presentation in mind, and 'King Kong' was actually supposed to be a big 3D launch, but the cineplexes flaked out).
Why anybody here, on a blu-ray forum, would be resistant to advancement in film entertainment technology just boggles my mind. 3D Star Wars and LOTR is exactly what I've always wanted, and it's what the filmakers always ultimately envisioned; just because some of you aren't interested, doesn't make it stupid.

I have to back-up all those that posted that this is old news, but I agree, it's pretty exciting that the project is still moving forward.

And for the record: 3-D may be coming to our homes sooner than you think. The technology may be available in the next 5-10 years (don't ask for the links, just do a little research and you'll find it, I never bothered to copy the links at the time that I read it). But for now, yes, it is the best way to get people to the theaters when they have to compete with awesome home set-ups with HD...
It's already available, and it's not even that expensive. Back in December, Popular Science ran the story on a setup they tested that includes any 120hz hdtv (they used a Samsung DLP), along with a $200 kit with glasses that have shutters that synchronize to alternating frames. All that's needed now is the media for it.

Wow I can see by your post that we are not allowed to bash Lucas or say anything bad about him. All some of us are saying is why dont he release the Star War's Trilogy on Blu Ray instead of this out of date 3-D format? He stands to make a hell of a lot of money with Star Wars and the Indiana Jones Shows on Blu Ray. I thought he would have been one of the first guys to have this done but no he aint budgeing at all. Why is that? I never complained about how he added scenes to the orginal movies at all in fact I thought they were much better and although some didnt like them but I liked the Prequals much better then the originals! I am mad at Lucas because he hasnt released the Star Wars Trilogy on Blu Ray yet and I dont understand why and what he is waiting for. That all being said I think people have a right to voice their opinions without being told to keep their mouths shut because they dont agree with what a certain director is doing. And by the way Lucas wasnt the only guy "who completely changed the way that the public -- and filmakers -- think about movies". I can name 2 other guys who did the same and their names are Speilberg and John Carpenter.

I haven't tried to forbid anybody from doing anything, I never told anybody to shut their mouth, I'm expressing my opinion. What makes you think that Lucas developing a 3D version excludes blu-ray development? It's been my understanding, from what I've read, that blu-ray is necessary for home 3D, because you need a 120hz source media. What you want and what I want are most likely the same thing.

went to see "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and it was suprisingly very cool. Very excited about Star Wars shown in 3D and of course the movies on Blu-ray.

7. The Phantom Menace VHS
8. The Phantom Menace DVD
9. Attack of the Clones DVD
10. Revenge of the Sith DVD
11. Copies of Disc 2 from the 2006 re-releases that featured the original theatrical cuts because I refused to pay for sub-par, non-anamorphic DVDs when I already have Disc 1
12. 35mm trailer for AOTC
13. Clone Wars Season 1 DVD
14. Clone Wars Season 2 DVD

There are probably some more copies I have somewhere. Yeah I have problems...
I think I have all of the stuff on your list except for the 35mm trailer. I also have the Christmas special on a bootleg DVD, both Ewok movies and all the laserdisc sets. I think there's something wrong with us.
I don't care how many times Lucas put this stuff out, I'll buy it.

I might get flamed for saying this ... but here goes... The pyramids were built once and still stand, The great wall of China was built once and is still pretty damn cool, one stonehenge... I think you see where I am going with this.... Star Wars was a part of my youth that should stand as is... if you keep remaking the same thing over and over and over and over, it kind of plays out.. Leave them alone, Put them on Blu and make everyone happy. Stop trying to make more money off of us already by doing stuff that just should not be done.... Blu release of the Originals and the prequels.... stop there... thats just my two cents....
