I can understand to a degree how some people might like a bit more closure to a film, but for anyone to think NCFOM isn't at the very least a quality movie is beyond me. If anything too many studios feel the need to dumb down the ending i.e. the U.S. vs. British version of The Descent. That's part of what makes the ending of NCFOM and There Will Be Blood so refreshing (in a morbid sort of way).

That scene in the gas station, with the coin alone is better than some entire movies.

It was extremely dull. I really disliked No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood. I got those on blind buy but exchanged them for 30 Days of Night and SAW.

Get off the ADD drugs and try smoking some pot. Your attention span might actually get to the level of an antelope or possibly a small rodent.
Seriously, i think we can officially divide the movie going public into two groups: People who like There Will Be Blood and morons.
I know, i'm so mature.

The movie has a psychopathic killer, who uses a coin to determine who he kills. It is a movie that doesn't rely on cheap twists, has exceptional acting and a tightly woven plot. So I guess that means I love dull movies.

Does the US and UK versions of the Descent have differant endings?

I don't even know what to say to that...

I half expected this, "and then I traded those for Delta Farce and Witless Protection"

If you go to the link below it explains the alternative ending. I prefer the British ending, since it fits the tone of the entire film.

And yes, I'm aware that Harvey Dent too relied on using a coin, but it's hardly a cheap knockoff. The concept of using a coin to determine outcomes was around prior to the creation of Harvey Dent. If any other aspects of the film remotely resembled other films I would agree, but No Country for Old Men was about as far from typical Hollywood fare as you can get.

just watched this last night and i thought it was a great movie, i wasnt to happy with the ending at first but after i thought about it i actually now like it. Its different not like a typical film where the killer gets jailtime or is killed

I agree.
Kinda more like real life, huh? I love how the movie flirts with certain genre cliches: Good/Evil, Western, Noir, Mystery, Crime, Suspense, Drama, Comedy, and then totally blows those expectations out of the water.
I wonder, would people really have liked this movie more if Sheriff Bell did like 15 acrobatic moves to avoid Chigurh's air gun spray, then bends the bullets with his mind and sends them back at him, splattering his brains all over the mirror. Then he could've said,"Flip your coin now, biatch." Music swells and end credits. Would that have wrapped it up in a nice little bow for you? You could walk out of the movie theater without feeling like a sucker, could you? No deeper meanings to wrap your mind around there. Sleep tight little ones.

I think is a boring film. I never came into.
IMHO the worst film of Cohen Brothers.
Also think that Javier Bardem didn't deserve an Oscar for this job.

I like many Coen Brothers movies as well as dramas and suspense films in general, but I was very disappointed with No Country. I thought the acting was pretty good, but found the movie very boring. I kept waiting and waiting for something interesting to happen, but never did. I just don't see why people are claiming this movie is so incredible. There have been many better movies in regards to this type of film. I can't help but think some people jumped on the bandwagon for this film.

By comparison, I thought There Will Be Blood was a far better movie, as was Juno and Michael Clayton if we're talking Best Picture nominees.

I totally agree with you and your pick of movies.
I would add other: The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, with a outstanding performance by Casey Affleck, nominee for a supporting role, like Bardem who won it (with my disagreement).

Well.... I guess I made the mistake of enjoying TWBB and NCFOM for what they were, and never thought to compare them to cinematic masterpieces like "Saw" or "30 Days of Night"
