When you never owned the DvD to begin with, and the Blu-Ray itself costs $9.99 Canadian, it's a great deal. I don't care if the picture is slightly altered and there are no special features.

Still a good buy if you never owned the movie to begin with.

I hope there is a US release that is lossless and OAR then I'll pick it up but until that time I will buy other movies.
this might sound a little harsh... but you have no idea what your talking about! i am extremely picky about pic quality and bought the bluray release of seven and the transfer was great. it looked sharp as any other good blu title ive seen in the last few months. i think your just one of those ppl that looks at the 1080i print on the back and automatically preset your mind to anticipate a bad video and thus follow through. honestly, if i didnt know see the 1080i print on the back i wouldnt know it was lacking anything in the release. and yeah for 10 bucks Canadian. u shouldnt be complaining about anything.

I could get the 2001 New Line 2-disc DVD with a truckload of extras and a strong SD transfer in the proper OAR for less than the price of this Blu-ray release.

umm... i forget... is this a sd dvd forum or bluray forum? i own that special ed you speak of and it sells for 17.99+tx new. nothing close to the price of this blu. oh and btw.. the pic quality on this release is fantastic. i dont get it, give ppl lower prices they complain, you give em higher prices and they complain. sometimes you cant have your cake and eat it too. i've watched tons of blus that are exactly same as their sd counterpart... Terminator 1, Bangkok Dangerous, Punisher.... which are all 1080p releases and seven looked WAY better than all of these at half the price! so stop the complaining on this release plz.

Default Bluray - Seven review

Hi,

Does anyone own the Bluray Seven? I haven't been able to find a review of it and was wondering if it's worth picking up.

Thanks

From what I heard Seven is available as a Canadian import from Alliance BUTwhen the transfer took place they butchered it it's original aspect ratio was 2:35:1 but it got cropped to 1:78:1.

I have it and was okay buying it for $9.99 ($14.99 at Blockbuster plus a $5 off coupon).

Yes its 1080i and its not cropped but "opened up". The film was filmed in 1.78:1 and then cropped for release as 2.35:1. So black bar hates may like this, people who don't like when you mess with the OAR will hate it.

Quality wise it wasn't bad for the cheap price, if you can grab it cheap I say go for it, but if its a fav of yours wait for the US release.

I love Se7en and am waiting for the US release of it so I can get the film the way David Fincher shot it. OAR or nothing for me. I will stick with the DVD in 480p/2:35:1/DTS ES version I have until some one gives Se7en the release it deserves.

Despite the 1080i, the movie looks excellent, to be honest I cant see a difference between 1080i and 1080/24p.

Thanks!
I was VERY VERY upset at this Blu release....the fact that this film is cropped to a 1:78 from a 2:40 is beyond me...that is over half the picture gone. I would stay away until perhaps CRITERION gets there little hands on this one and releases it in the aspect ratio it deserves....the cinematography in this movie is beautiful......stay away and save your $$$$ or spend the same amount and get the Platinum Edition on reg. DVD and upconvert it!
