But in review after review, the anti-Blu bias is made clear. I don't understand it. Last edited by Ernest Rister; 01-30-2009 at 02:16 AM. |

I thought the only reason why Disney has been a bit reluctant in releasing older catalog titles on blu is a very simply that they want to wait and put as much effort into restoring the film in question. Plus, I've heard they've been having problems with their BD- Live network and are working on launching a worldwide network later this year (here in Canada, none of their titles have had BD- Live). Then with BD Live launch worldwide, and many titles currently being restored for full 1080p and lossless audio, then we should be getting more catalog titles probably early next year. What Ultimate Disney says about them not having faith is BS, cause why did they just announce the first major BD exclusive title (even if it's only for 2 days) with the March release on Bolt.

I figured I would throw in my two cents here, seeing as how I can empathize with the folks over at UltimateDisney.com, and their perceived lack of enthusiasm for the Blu-Ray format. Though I did eventually convert around this time last year, I was not so easily swayed into all thing Blu-Ray.
One of my first big purchases when I graduated from college in 2004 and started living the adult, independent lifestyle was a bigger television. This was before LCDs and plasma and high-definition. All my life, I'd had a teeny-tiny television that had worked just fine for what I'd needed it for, but I always had my eyes on the 32" flat-screen, weighs-a-ton-and-a-half behemoths at places like Wal-Mart and Sam's Club. When I'd saved up enough money, I purchased a 32" flat-screen SHARP television, and it was the best...TV...ever. I still have it, just in case the plasma TV I bought last year ever kicks the bucket. Combining that with my (at the time it was released) state-of-the-art, top-of-the-line DVD/VCR combo player, I was in heaven. I remember marveling at the picture, while watching regular television shows and movies. At the time, I thought, "This picture is perfect. Pristine. Crystal clear. How could it get any better? Oh, I know why! Because it can't! I have the best TV, the best DVD/VCR player, the best hookups. Nothing will ever top this. I have everything I'll ever need to watch television and movies forever!" Then, in 2007, I started hearing rumors of a format better than DVD. I started hearing whispers of televisions that outperformed my own. But I was not easily swayed! "It's a gimmic!" I remember thinking. "Well, I'm not falling for that!" Even when I went home for Christmas in 2007 and watched TV on my parents' new high-def television, I was less than impressed. The picture was pixilated beyond belief, and it was smaller than the actual screen size. "If this is the future of televisions and movies, they can keep it. I'll stick with my razor-sharp TV and DVD/VCR player!" Of course...that was before I knew about things like LCDs and Plasma. That was before numbers like 480 and 720 and 1080 became common knowledge for me. That was before I knew about HDMI cables...and Blu-Ray players...and frame-rates...and all that technical jargon. Even then, I was not easily converted. I spent countless hours researching the future of high-definition. What did I want? What was the best? Would it all be worth it? What if I spent all that money and was disappointed? My 32" SHARP television had never EVER let me down; it was the epitome of perfection. Needless to say, I eventually took the plunge. I am now a high-definition-Blu-Ray convert. Do I notice the different in regular DVDs and Blu-Ray? Yes. Do I notice a different in regular TVs and Plasma? You betcha! But I'm wondering if some of the folks over at UltimateDisney.com aren't like me in some regards. They have terrific regular televisions that, to them, couldn't look any sharper if you tried. Their DVD players work flawlessly. How could anyone ever improve on these formats? At one time, I was just as stubborn as those guys, probably even more so. In some ways, I still am. I'm not going through my collection and getting rid of all my DVDs, only to replace them with Blu-Ray disks. No, no. I'm keeping them. It's just, now, when new movies come out, I go Blu-Ray.
