Not having a ST BD player, I have to ask...
Is there some sort of chicken sacrifice involved to loading a BD in one, or is it like any other player where you drop the disc and close the drawer?

I don't think the price is that bad for bd. How much where dvds upon release?? The only friends I have w/ blu are the ones w/ ps3. I have a brother and a lot of friends who want bd but dont want to spend $200 for a player. any one w/ a brain can see the difference and I have a feeling alot of my friends will be getting bd w/ the next year or less. Prices are going to drop

Blu Ray is not the new Laserdisc.

There are no new Laserdiscs. They quit making them... recently.

the Sad truth of the matter is to most of the things i has read on the internet and heard people say about Blu-Ray is:

Anti- Blu-Ray talking point's

Blu-Ray= Sony

which also means SONY+DRM = BAD

Even if they have not even try'ed out any Blu-Ray at all. they still tout

"dvd is good enough"

they wanted Blu-Ray to fail, because they think "SONY" is cramming the format down their consumer's throats. and Blu-Ray is not needed. But HD DVD, Since it has "DVD" in its name that it is already a standard, and that "SONY" is trying to make yet another format a Standard when their is no NEED for another Because DVD is enough.
its not finished format, the format is not reliable, has low speed.

the facts are is :

All "as far as i know" Blu-Ray players play Standard DVD's so you would not have to buy new copy's if you did not want to.

next Blu-Ray is not Just a Sony format, so take Their Opinion for what ever its worth...

not finished,,what ever format is...hell even DVD as a format is not finished yet ..ask Toshiba if DVD's evolution is finished...

the blunt truth of the matter is there are people, corperations ,media that do not want Blu-Ray to succeed for what ever their reason. but the Fact of the matter Blu-Ray has
succeeded already. even with all of the negative doom sayers, its a format thats just an Evolution of the CD format. its had its trials long ago before this "So called format war"
if you could call it one. , and Blu-Ray will be here on the market just like

CD
DVD
Blu-Ray

because Blu-Ray is also used for SOFTWARE
just like The CD format, just like the DVD format.

Laser disc is not used for SOFTWARE, VHS IS NOT USED FOR SOFTWARE,BETAMAX IS NOT USED FOR SOFTWARE.

Notice any format that has not been used for SOFTWARE has been pretty much discontinued. thats a big point.

There is definitely a certain element within the so-called tech media that is trying to do a hit job on Blu-ray. A few of these writers must former HD DVD supporters, but I can't help but think it's because of Microsoft playing a role where they are trying to undermind the population's confidence in Blu-ray to set up downloading.

Its the percieved view of Media, and alot of people that want Blu-Ray to fail, because they did not think its needed. what most fail to even think about is "its always needed" IN ONE SHAPE OR FORM , more storage space is needed now more than ever due to DATA always needed to be backed up. the more space the better. but..but hard drives, are cheap enough. yes they are cheap, but also more prone to failure, same with flash drives less prone to failure than harddrives but you can only write on them so many times anyway.

Disc formats have been the cheaper way for data back up for quite a while, and for the future that may take a while for that to change. So No matter what Since Blu-Ray is a disc based format it still has a use. and since its also used for Software its more of a viable use, in the electronics industry.

bingo....but even Microsoft cannot delay the adoption because its already as a format has consumer market share along the same lines as DVD had in its intro into the market . just look at Blu-Ray's market share just in Japan, the data back up industry, and now Software..every playstation 3 disc sold is still a "Blu-Ray disc sold" MGS: 4 sold over 3 million copy's World wide..that 3 million Blu-Ray disc's sold. reguardless even if its not a movie. ...that alone should tell people Blu-Ray is not going anywhere.

bluray is basically following the same trend as dvds.......it's being used for video games (as dvd was over cartridges/cds), greater storage (as dvd was over cd), and obviously movies (as dvd was over vhs). methinks it is doing a fine job breaking into the industry.

yup..and not just Games..but also software in general example:

ComicBase Atlas Blu-ray Archive Edition
Overview

ComicBase proudly presents the first PC program in the world to use the new Blu-ray Disc format.* This top-of-the-line, exclusive two disc Edition packs over 28 GB of pictures content onto aBlu-ray disc, with an additional 6 GB of pictures and movies included on a second DVD. It captures our entire art library of more than 205,000 covers, over half of which are now full-sized, high-definition images.

Now this is just the start, but more will follow. Blu-Ray is here to stay.

Good points, but you also forgot:

"HD-DVD players were sold {at a massive loss} for $100, why can't Blu-Ray players be sold for that amount too?"

And the ever popular:

"I used to have HD-DVD and Sony screwed me cuz I'm a big whiny brat that thinks that HD-DVD despite having the entire industry against them should have won, so I want Blu-Ray to fail because I make bad decisions!"

this is not meant to offend the OP, but my thoughts on this are ..."so what?"

do we really have to flock to every blog or article that suggests that Blu-ray is dead?...

just ignore it....I read the title of this thread and how many pages it had and I was like wow....we should be past this by now...

just my take anyways..

And those "pointless" green and red buttons, that he still doesn't know what they're for!

(Hey, took me a while to figure them out, too, but at least I grasped the theory.)

a product does not have to become "mass market" to be a resounding success. frankly, laserdisc was a very successful product that offered a wide range of titles at the best quality available for many, many years. i wouldn't mind at all if Blu-ray is the next laserdisc.

I agree. To many people's chagrin, there are many titles on laserdisc still not released on DVD, and therefore, the best possible resolution available.

With Blu-Ray the new high-resolution winner, who knows whether those titles will ever be released on DVD and I would figure the more obscure titles not released on DVD would have a lower probability to be released on Blu-Ray.

Laserdisc was a format that survived for almost two decades. The last North Americna title released was brining out the dead in Oct 2000 and the Japanese released LDs up until 2001. It's quite a niche market online with many collectors. I'll stop mentioning laserdisc for a second and just bring up the point that I still see people picking up VHS tapes at thrift stores for heaven's sake. I'm sure I'm not the onlyone who've seen this.
