For anyone who hasn't seen Ghost Hunters on Sci-Fi they went and investigated the Stanley Hotel where Stephen King stayed to write the Shining. Very cool epsiode if you get a chance to see it.

Good analysis I know exactly what you mean. I bought Blade Runner having not ever seen it. I was very impressed by the movie itself, but have not gotten around to the special features yet. I loved it.

Like I said, it seems like every time it came on TV, I managed to flip to it at the same parts, and I was like 'geez, when am I going to actually see the full movie?' So, I think it's about time I watched it. Probably should of taken advantage of one of the BOGO's with it. I need to check and see if it is still available on one of them (Amazon?)

What you said nails it for me ... this is the only time a movie captured the real essence of a King novel IMO. All the others may have been truer to the story etc .. but this one got the soul and feel.

Dead Zone was the only other translation into a movie that I really enjoyed ... due to the acting.

PQ is good.
Cinematography is good.
Jack Nicholson is good.
The film is just good.

Thats a good start if you liked BR. Jack Nickolson's performance would receive an easy Oscar win if it were not in a horror movie. I think you will find it very worth the purchase. "Mr. Hollerand? Whats in room 237?"

Yay, I ordered this last week so I'm really glad that people here say it's a good buy. I think this film is a horror classic and a unique version of the novel. I'd say it's one of the best horror films.

P.S. Anyone recognise my avatar?

My first two Blus -- 2001 and The Shining.

Both great films.

Rush out and buy it now.

Just don't try to use the Snowcat to get to the store or you've got a big surprise coming to you.

BTW, Kevin Bacon wasn't in the tv version, it was that dude from Wings

"All work and no play make Jack a very dull boy"...yeah, it comes from this movie

Oh if you haven't seen it yet, take advantage of that and make a major event out of it! Make a major bowl of popcorn, set your lighting, settle into a nice poofy chair, late at night and just watch the hell out of the thing. Its going to be a great experience. Its one of my top 10 favorite movies!

First of all, the movie is an absolute masterpiece as most Kubrick films are, and second of all the PQ is excellent. This is the best representation of this movie so far.

One thing to remember about Kubrick films in general is that they sometimes tend to unfold a little slowly and seem kind of dreamy and disconnected from reality. His movies do not follow any regular patterns that most other movies tend to. He makes you think in ways a few other modern movies do.

I hope that's your cup of tea, otherwise you may find yourself to be bored when watching his movies.
