And then skip the second unless you want awkward homo-erotic subtext.

Three is as good as the first IMO, four blatantly copies 3 but is decent, and after that it's just random until New Nightmare (amazing concept that made Freddy scary... until the complete shit ending).

Freddy's Revenge was the one that I always watched on television when I was like 7 or 8, I can remember the bird exploding into flames freaking me the hell out. Now when I watch it, I can't get the whole homoerotic/S&M gym teacher thing out of my head. The female lead is very attractive to me for some reason in that film.

If you can find it, there is a two disc set that has the first four for like 10 bucks, it's well worth it. Either that or buy the box set and throw Freddy's Dead away.

I don't remember the female lead... I do remember thinking a lot of them were good looking.

Not to mention it was nice to see them making a girl in a horror movie brave and intelligent.

Default Sean Penn

First of all I wanna say I know many hate the idea of a reboot of Nightmare, but it looks like it's being made, so why not come with other suggestions as to who could play Fred Krueger.
SEAN PENN!
And second of all I know many hate Sean Penn calling him a self-righteous
bastard and all, but I really believe he could pull it off!
Almost the same facial features (not in a bad way )and he is quite capable of acting.
Anybody?????

What's so awkward about homo-erotic subtext? Unless your homophobic or have some "fantasies" you don't want others to know about?

Like most horror franchises the first is the best, the rest suck and the remakes are unnecessary. Heck, I just found out last night after watching the original "My Bloody Valentine" on DVD they're planning a remake of Terror Train.

I am certainly not a Sean Penn hater that guy is a fantastic actor. I've been a fan since the days of Spicoli. Now I won't see Milk just because I'm not interested in the gay rights movement but that guy can play anybody, that's sure proof by him just signing on for the Three Stooges movie, lol. Too bad he doesn't do horror.

Just some of his fantastic roles!

Mystic River
Taps
Racing With the Moon
At Close Range
State of Grace
Dead Man Walking
I Am Sam

I'm bi-curious (and I have fantasies? =P) but that doesn't make it any less out of place.

I've never heard of Terror Train.

Really? His hair bothered me too much, haha. Not to mention everytime I see that now, I picture the lawyer they modeled after him in Grand Theft Auto Vice City!

I don't want Englund to play Freddy at all. If he does it will just be another Freddy movie. If they make this dark like Silence of the Lambs/Seven, it will be a ggreat movie. If they don't, it will just be another hows Freddy going to kill people in this movie, movie. It needs to feel more real...

Yeah I got over that after I decided some people could do it right, such as Robert Knepper.

With the way special effects are progressing it shouldn't be too bad, although movies do need some sort of plot too....I've heard Friday the 13th remake was pretty good...lets hope for the same!

FANTASTIC! This is the news I was hoping to hear in the next 2 weeks. I've been waiting on this casting for months and I knew he was very interested I just thought it would be dream casting. I've been lobbying for him since the beginning and I am just glad that for once the studio listened to the fans! YES YES YES!!!

Just found this bit of news too, which makes me even happier cause when I posted the news last week Kyle was waiting to hear back this further moves him into final negotiations. I really love the way this movie is shaping up!!

"We've learned exclusively this afternoon that Kyle Gallner (The Haunting In Connecticut) is in final talks to play Quentin, the podcast host and Johnny Depp character in New Line Cinema's Platinum Dunes produced reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street. He'll be joining Jackie Earle Haley, who we announced a few hours ago will be playing Freddy Krueger. Watch for loads more casting in the coming weeks as shooting begins at the end of this month."
