as slec mentioned, we just have to do the standard meet and greet at times. sure they may not have what we 'prefer' at times, but hey, they're just asking for insights on certain things. at that point, we can continue assisting them with quality answers...

'how big is the room' or 'how do you have your components connected, hdmi? component? s-video?'

in this light, we can capture what they have, and what they want, without imposing our preferences on them

Excellent post! Because all of these things are subjective. As I always say - education is important in this hobby. There are paradoxical twins when it comes to bad thinking - ignorance and arrogance, Ingorance - you know nothing - Arrogance shows just how much you dont know

Because there is a gaming forum on this site. Many people who are into AV... are also into gaming. It's a comparable, crossover interest in electronic technology. The problem is that it's next to impossible to have a forum about gaming..... and then allow only one gaming platform to actually be discussed. Some people seem to feel that is a license to bash and outright lie about all of the other platforms. Afficionados of those other platforms will then speak up and point out the falsehoods.... then sometimes chaos ensues.

I understand that PS3 game discussions are allowed because it is the only platform that actually uses blu-ray.... however.... given that it IS next to impossible to have game discussions without sometimes also discussing other platforms...... it would be nice if Blu-ray.com put some kind of forum in the OT section for other gaming platforms. It certainly wouldn't be the only non-blu section. We have a section for Portable Music Players fercryinoutloud

In principle I don't disagree, the issue is that at the end of the day a forum should have a raison d'être. I am sure many have homes, many have cars, many eat out, many have computers..... but a forum can't be everything for every one. As for gaming, the issue is that unfortunately it tends to have a lot of fan boys for example, let's not look to far, just a few posts hire someone said

Honestly I don't think it's worht the money for me to get another gaming console only to play movies. All the games I'm interested in are on Xbox.
now I agree that most people (i.e. me) don't have enough free time and any console has more then enough games so owning two or three does not make all that much sense under those circumstances (with the price of a second console you can buy a few games and movies which you will enjoy), but that is just an inflammatory fanboy comment, because no console has an exclusion on good games (then again if you don't have one of them it is easy to talk from ignorance).

I don't think there is something wrong with consoles (especially any one in particular) but they do tend to have a lot of fanboys (i.e. people with total disregard of facts and a religious zeal for their choice) and that is one thing I would rather not have here.
