Haven't decided yet. The dealer is cutting me a bit of a deal ($100 off MSRP because they bought some of their stock last fall before Monitor raised the US prices by $100), but the only finishes they bought last fall are the Rosenut and the Black. The Rosenut are beautiful, but they are the demo pair. If I can't find any flaws whatsoever, I'll go Rosenut, but if there's nicks or dents, I'll take the NIB black ones. My other stuff is all black, but the Rosenut is just so nicely done. Plus, the demo pair will already be broken in!!

If you havent looked at my pics I chose a rosewood finish too. I love it, they are so sleek and sexy.

I agree. Those Quads are a very fashionable pair of speakers! Gotta love real wood veneers in the $1000 price range. You know the speaker manufacturer is eating that cost somewhere in order to deliver a better product to the consumer. I'll support a company with that business model any day!

Well, they're in and installed. I'm still waiting for my 12ga cable and banana plugs from monoprice, but for the time being I'm running off of 16ga bare wire. Pics have been uploaded to my gallery! I'll post again shortly as I play around some more.

Great news, congrats!! by the way, many speakers are designed with the grills in mind. They are actually supposed to sound better with the grills on, so don't worry about keeping them on.

The monitor's look really nice !!! I was rooting for the Revel's, I heard the F12's this past summer and really liked how they sounded at that price level. More people should consider the Revel Concerta line. I also heard the Monitor's at the same time and place, don't remember which model but I'm sure they were the same ones you picked up. Anyhow I thought the F-12's sounded fuller with better bass response. I know, "that's why they make subs, but it is so nice when you get good low-end out of your mains.

Either way I'm sure your very happy and I would be too.

Enjoy !!!

Interesting..I picked the monitors because I felt their bass response outperformed that of the Revels. I was shocked, because the laws of physics would imply that the Revels' 8-inch drivers move more air than the the Monitors' sixes. I have set the crossover to 50Hz now and my bass is better than ever...the sub is just handling to lowest, almost inaudible areas. Upping the crossover results in less-defined bass. This may be because my sub is located in a corner, whereas the Monitors have plenty of breathing room. Either way...the bass is not deficient in any way. To each their own, I suppose!

Thanks for the comments!

All that matters is that your happy with your speakers. I know I would be a Happy man with speakers from either brand. The guy at the shop had a demo disc that he used on both speaker lines. There are a lot of factors that also go into why & what we each heard as well. You wouldn't have to twist my arm to take the Monitors. From what I heard the F12's took the lead, no biggie !!!

Mainly I think a lot of people would be very happy the Revel Concerta series as they are very affordable and they are something else to consider besides the more popular competition from Polk and Klipsch. We can even throw Monitor audio into the competition as well. I get that Polk and Klipsch are more widely available but for the most part I don't think people should really have a hard time tracking down Revel's or Monitor Audio either. Worth the extra time as we both know.

!!! Public Notice !!! I am not downing Polk or Klipsch all I'm saying is a person looking for new speakers very well may be glad they put a little extra effort into auditioning these very affordable speakers and/or checking out brands not offered in big box stores. It also gives you something to compare too !!!

Thanks Polk and Klipsch fans for not tearing me a new one !!!

No offense taken...it took actually quite a bit more convincing than it appears in this thread to make me ditch the Revels. They were my "reference" standard against which I compared everything else. I myself had a bit of a bias in favor of the Revels. However, something about the Monitors caught my attention....

I just found your post very interesting because where you perceived a weakness in the Monitors--bass--was where I perceived the strongest gain! But that's the way it is with speakers... However, if and/or when it comes time to make a speaker upgrade, Revel will once again be on the list. I have been blessed enough to hear the Ultima Salon2 setup, and it is phenomenal. Going forward, whenever anybody asks for my recommendation in speakers, I will most certainly give them two brand names: Monitor and Revel. There are others that deserve mention (I never did get to listen to the Quads), but I can feel secure in recommending both as very enticing options.

I have to say I'm a proud owner of the Revel Concerta. I have a 7.1 setup with the Revels to a Marantz 8002. When I was shopping I compared against a number of brands from B&W, Paradigmn, Monitor, SLS, Focals, Snell. I really enjoyed the Revel. If I could have afforded the Performa i would have gone with them but the Concerta is what I finalled with and love them.

It wasn't a weakness I heard in the Monitor's, in fact I would be happy to have them in my home. It's just that I noticed stronger bass coming from the Revels during my demo and like you said two eights can/should provide that. It's just something I like in speakers because I don't like using a subwoofer while I'm listening to music, all personal preference......... The monitor's also win in appearance too. You made a great choice as far as I'm concerned !!!

A lot of people can agree: So many wonderful speakers and so little time........ One of my goals is to check out the Focal Utopia line, the big full range speakers with a hand crank on the back. I would also love to check out and even own Salks, Eggleston's, Wilson's, Von Schweikert's, MBL's and so many more. Some day !!!

Monitor bass is very unique. Even from their subs it's very punchy and musical.

One of the speakers I've always wanted to check out is Vienna Acoustics. But I can't find a dealer here anywhere.

I have listened to them literally hundreds of times. They are very nice, but only as good as the power you can supply them. I have never found a receiver that does them justice, they need a good amp and good pre-amp

Default A/V rack options?

I have decided that before I can continue my upgrade, I need a suitable place for all my new goodies. If you look at my gallery, you'll see what I mean...its a mess.

I've searched all over, and I'm seriously considering the Lovan Sovereign series available on Amazon for $340 shipped. It has the space and number of tiers I need; it's fillable, and looks like a sturdy piece of equipment. Cable management is available, even though it doesn't look like it, so that's not a problem. What do you think? Has anyone had experience with this company? Any other suggestions?

Default Resurrection!!

Seeing as this kind of turned into my HT build thread a while ago, I figured I'd just post here and see if I can engineer a resurrection.

It's come time for me to upgrade my center channel; however, $650 for the RS LCR from Monitor seems ridiculous. So I have managed to score a single RS6 from Monitor's B-stock and will have matching 3 tower speakers across the front!!!

I'd like your thoughts on amplification for the center channel, as I don't have funds right now to purchase the Anthem MCA-50 to match my MCA-20. I have picked up a Carver PM175--its a 25 year-old amp--on Audiogon for a final cost of $200. It will put out 175WPC into 8 ohms; I am planning on using both channels for the center in a bi-amp configuration. I know it's old, but Bob Carver has a good reputation.

What are your thoughts on this amp or Carver's earlier work in general? I'm curious to know.
