Old School hands down

After that it is hard to say, I like a lot of comedies.

Most recently Tropic Thunder comes to mind, but I've only watched it once.

Ah yes, I loved Planes, Trains and Automobiles as well as Happy Gilmore and the Great Outdoors!

I like how all the violence is tongue-in-cheek. The wood chipper is a good example. Every sentence that William Macy utters is a lie. The whole mood of the thing makes me smile.

"anything else you can tell us"
"he wasn't circumcised"

The accents, sure. Buscemi always makes me laugh though. The dialogue was very similar to Tarantino's.

Default Just 5?

It is very difficult to select just five favorite comedies. Many posts in this thread only mention recent movies but my appreciation of comedies includes those made prior to my birth. The earliest comedy I like is The General with Buster Keaton. Because I enjoyed Peter Sellers in The Pink Panther and Dr. Strangelove, I sought out his other films, which lead me to the Ealing Studios comedies. I was also guided by the AFI comedies list and books on the best movies. Well, here are five but I’m not sure they are my top favorites when I look at my runner-up list.

Top 5:
Dr. Strangelove
The Bank Dick (also see other W.C. Fields movies like It's a Gift)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
This is Spinal Tap
Animal House

Runner Ups:
The Princess Bride
Singin' in the Rain
My Cousin Vinny
Ruthless People
What's Up, Doc?
Thank You For Smoking
Bringing Up Baby (and other Cary Grant comedies like Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House)
Duck Soup (and other Marx Brothers)
Sons of the Desert (and other Laurel & Hardy)
A Shot in the Dark (see Pink Panther first)
Sullivan's Travels
Back to the Future
Midnight Run
Beetlejuice
The Seven Year Itch
No Time For Sergeants
Ball of Fire
Groundhog Day (the best Bill Murray comedy)
Ghostbusters
What About Bob?
Sleeper (and other Woody Allen movies before he wanted to become Ingmar Bergman)
Paleface (and other Bob Hope movies like Monsieur Beaucaire)
Road to Morocco (and other Hope & Crosby road pictures)
Support Your Local Sheriff
Toy Story
The Producers (1968)
The Court Jester
A Fish Called Wanda
The Graduate
Harvey
It’s a Gift
Ruggles of Red Gap (not on DVD!)
A Christmas Story (1983)

A few older British comedies that may be an acquired taste:
I’m All Right Jack
Kind Hearts and Coronets
The Ladykillers (1955)
The Man in the White Suit
The Importance of Being Earnest (1952)
The Mouse that Roared
Pygmalion (1938)
Bedazzled (1967)
School For Scoundrels (1960)
The Belles of St. Trinian's (1954)- I haven’t seen this for years
