Wow, if there is a separate minimum wage for waiters in your state and it's legal that's seriously effed up
most places have min wages that differ for different jobs. For example here it is $8.50 an hour (general) and $7.75 an hour (jobs with tips)
and for some other jobs it is different then that
http://www.cnt.gouv.qc.ca/en/wages-p...ges/index.html

min wage is all about making sure the person working can survive. If a job that has comissions or tips has the same min as the one that has a fixed income, then the guy with a fixed income is seriously disadvantaged. right?

(since many restaurants are obviously legally allowed to pay their waitstaff somewhere in the $2-$5/hr range...far below actual minimum wage)
I know that there are places in the US where min wage is a lot lower then here, but 2$h sounds F@cked up, no matter how you put it. I would definetly look into it if I where them.

Ditto, having been a server as well as delivering pizzas for a while I'm probably too generous in most peoples minds.

There is a seperate minimum wage law federally. Not all states have seperate minimum wage laws so they are governed by the federal law.

Quote:
What is the minimum wage for workers who receive tips?

An employer may pay a tipped employee not less than $2.13 an hour in direct wages if that amount plus the tips received equal at least the federal minimum wage, the employee retains all tips and the employee customarily and regularly receives more than $30 a month in tips. If an employee's tips combined with the employer's direct wages of at least $2.13 an hour do not equal the federal minimum hourly wage, the employer must make up the difference.

Some states have minimum wage laws specific to tipped employees. When an employee is subject to both the federal and state wage laws, the employee is entitled to the provisions of each law which provide the greater benefits.

in my eyes there is NO reason to give someone 0% tip. are you getting your own drinks, food, napkins, silverware? no and that waiter/waitress is getting paid 3 dollars an hour to do all of that for you and the other 4-5 table he/she is waiting on. if they give you bad service, a bad tip is in order but certainly not zero tip. i am a waiter and i have received 0% tip once before. if you plan on giving no tip to a waiter, you had better not go back there because take it from me, they will remember you and you will be getting more than food on your plate the next time.

I would never give a 0 tip and if I did it would have to be over something so extreme that I wouldn't want to go back to that place anyway

Last time I left a tip, the waitress chased me down the street and told me I forgot my change.

Bad service is bad service. Ya get what you put into it. When the service is horrible I actually leave a penny just to tick them off even more.
The other day, my family and I were dining at Johnny Carino's and the hostess talked back at my wife cause my wife didn't follow her to our table. Yeah...I made her tear up.

I love you. (in a non-gay [not that there's anything wrong with that] way)

I usually tip waiter and/or waitresses, but only with good service. I have had some horrible service and I do the exact same thing and leave change under the cups and various places on the table. They get what they deserve if they dont want to give good service. For example, I am in the military and was going to a local Applebees for some dinner with my wife and they treated me like crap, let alone how they treated my wife. So I didn't leave anything and I actually talked to the store manager and he even treated my wife like crap. So now I don't even eat there anymore if they're not going to treat me, a military member and his spouse, fairly like they would with anyone else.

I once went to a restaurant where a waitress was incredibly rude to me simply because I was deaf. How did I know this? I had other deaf friends with me along with a couple hearing friends. She was rude to them too as well. Then we saw her laughing and carrying on conversations with other hearing customers. The second she realized that some of us were deaf, she changed her tone. I complained to the manager and what did they do? Nothing, I paid and left without leaving a tip. Ain't going back there. Some of my friends even left without paying for their meals because they were pretty ticked off.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to pay to be treated like a second-class douchebag.

Just the way they treated us. Food took forever and when we got the food it was cold. The waiter was a dumbass and the store owner a bigger one. Not to mention, I was supposed to get my meal free and they never gave it to me so I ended up paying for the meal anyways. And the menu they had me order from was limited to a measily 6 oz steak. And you would think that my wife would get some consideration cause the wives do most of the work anyways when we are gone. Just down right wrong.

did you tell them that your meal was supposed to be free when you got the check? what "consideration" were you looking for your wife, exactly?
