Shame on all of you for not mentioning the dark night. the tunnel scene( lower 5th) and the hospital explotion.

War of the worlds dvd.

When the ground implodes.
Foot steps up from the ground.
Pod slams down on car.
And those human evaporating beams.

My sub could hardly handle those parts from wotw. i had to turn it down.

Jarassic park 3. T-rex vs spinasouras.

The Dark Knight's problem is too much LFE, It is almost exhausting at times....

Some people said too quiet of dialog, I say too much bass. Your choice?

Its great points were overshadowed by its lows.

BEST DVD EVER - rivaling Blu-ray sound. I've been saying this for a year now. Everyone should have this movie, if purely for the sound. Wait a minute. This is my thread. I did say this at the beginning of it,

You are right! I just purchased it, after reading your first post, and for $1.99 it was well worth it! Not as bad of a movie as I thought years ago. Not only is the bass good, but the surround effect is awesome too! The wind is all around you.

I actually have to agree. A riser helps with the tiring bass though. It is a movie that makes me want to turn down or even off my subs. If you watch the whole movie, it is less likely that you will be impressed by the LFE since there is just so much of it.

I heard people say the same about Live Free or Die Hard's DVD version. They said it was so good, the Blu-ray version couldn't be much better. In fact, the Blu-ray version is almost so much better, it is one of those reference movies to show-off Blu-ray. Imagine much more detailed bass, better spatial effects, even more seamless panning, scary directionality, ect. I do not have a large collection of Blu's but will after my favorites are released. Here are a few titles: Jurrasic Park, War of The Worlds, Dante's Peak, Good Burger (I love the soundtrack on even the DVD), Back to the Future, all of the Toy Story's, ect. All of those will be day one purchases for me.

Although there's little one can say bad about The Dark Knight BD, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. The sound is a bit muddy and fatiguing at times - as if the soundtrack needs a bit of midbass attenuation.

Just because of the overuse of the bass in The Dark Knight and the sometimes muffled voices due to the overuse of bass, I would give it a 4.0 out of 5.0.

Did you get round to giving it a spin?

I dont think the bass is too much at all, i loved it. it was loud, clean, and clear. the dynamic range is awsome in that movie. its so quite in some scenes then BOOM! and vice versa.

Check out the beginning when the batpod crashes over the wall leading up to the part where he's getting back into his batpod then drives off. the rumble from that thing is so loud, then the next scene is so quiet! commissioner gordon is walking up the steps, sirens going off in the background, ambiance of chatter, then he gets into the bank and its even more quiet. ramirez hands him the envelope and you can hear every little detail when he puts his had in there. i know i sound crazy but check it out lol.

I cant wait for the bluray, can you imagine how much better its going to sound? even if only by a little thats still alot for this type of movie. the dvd bitrate for the DTS track is around 755kbps i think.

Independence Day- Any scene with destruction in it.

Cloverfield- Crossfire scene.

Dark Knight- Lower Fifth Tunnel Scene

Wanted- Any scene with a "heart beat" in it.

Air Force One- I know it's a dvd but I was surprised by how bombastic it was especially durring the hijacking and dogfight scenes.

One of the newer ones that caught my attention was in Bolt. It is the scene where he is jumping over the Helicopter while the propelers are in slo-mo.

Not the lowest dB, but a good one.

all this talk of War of the Worlds is starting to get to me that it's not on blu yet. I know Spielberg did a similar delay back in the days of VHS vs Beta, and the first stages of DVD format. He waited to see market penetration before commiting to anything....in other words, annoying to all of us! I'll have to search out the standard def disc of WOW, probably in 5$ bin at Walmart. Haven't seen the movie since it was in the theaters.

I'll see if I can find it at Walmart today. Time to look like a crazy person digging through the 5$ dvd bin, rubbing elbows with other people grabbing at the cute animal movies with celebrity voices.
