I saw it on a release list the other day but I don't know how accurate it is.

But now they've made Jed originally played by Patrick Swayze a 22 discharged Marine veteran of the Iraq War? I also don't like how they've narrowed down the casting so much, Danny played by Brad Savage is now "Danny the 17 year old African American Wide Receiver" and Erica played by Lea Thompson is now Erica Yu the 17 year old Asian American knockout captain of the cheerleading squad. So they have also eliminated her sister from this originally played by Jennifer Grey, considering both girls where in hiding under the floor and that's how they all first met and now she is the outgoing Cheerleading Captain of their high school?? So now that Jed is a war veteran he puts them through training and they actually use IPhones for recon work? I was hoping it would be set in the past still so we didn't see all these cell phones and crap. I just do not know what the hell to think about this update now. I had actually thought there was a chance it could be really good. The only hope now is the director and writer. They did hire some interesting guys for those roles. So only casting and a trailer will tell now.

I also find it funny that they mentioned this movie is going to have more violence and action than the original because here's a fun fact for ya - the original film was entered into the Guinness Book of Records as having the most acts of violence of any film up to that time. It was calculated that on average an act of violence occurs at a rate of 134 per hour or 2.23 per minute.
Wow, just wow. That sounds God awful. This is something I will never want to see.

Anyone who thinks that an invasion by North Korea is much more plausible really knows nothing about current affairs in East Asia. The suggestion is laughable.

A PC, "inclusive" Red Dawn remake?

That's a big PASS.

I agree 100%

I'm just going to pretend like the remake doesn't exist... I like it better that way...

Yeah, I really need an explanation as to how China is less of a threat than N. Korea.

Release date?

I bet it drops somewhere in August after The Avengers has run in theaters, so people will be waiting for the next Hemsworth film.......

This one is going to have a lot harder time overcoming the suspension of disbelief hurdle. Movies like this have a much better chance of working if they can find a hook that's already in the back of the public's mind.

Fail-Safe and Dr Strangelove and Seven Days in May worked because people felt events were moving too fast, that nobody on either side was entirely in control and it wouldn't take much for everything to spin out of control. Wargames worked because of similar unease about technology in general and computers in particular. Red Dawn worked not because a Soviet invasion seemed plausible but because of the sense that some sort of showdown was not only imminent but unavoidable.

That's not to say they can't make a fun movie without that hook but it will have a lot harder time resonating with people.

And who knows, they might actually come up with something.

For instance, maybe some of the firefights can be supplanted or augmented by a bit of good old-fashioned American cyberhooliginism. What member of this target audience wouldn't cheer wildly at the sight of a squadron of attack choppers reduced to smouldering wreckage by a fourteen year old geek with a smart phone

Do the Wolverines have a facebook page yet???
