Man, here I was hoping against hope that the thread revival was for Director's Cut Rob promised everyone nearly 20 years ago, or at least some awesome new 4K disc or something.

Too soon I guess.

What will we se first:
House of 1K Corpses DC?
True Lies and/or The Abyss on any HD disc?
The early Peter Jackson films on any HD disc?

Just watched this for the first time and I'm not a serious videophile but the US blu-ray looks pretty bad IMO, like distractingly so, sharpened and DNR'd, grain frozen when not absent entirely (not counting the optical zooms which have grain but look all smeary.) Yes the film has a lot of specks and scratches but it's hard to believe anyone ever took issue with that given..... literally everything about Zombie's style... but the really weird thing is seeing those blemishes in a transfer that otherwise doesn't look like film at all! It makes the scratches look like a cheesy Final Cut Pro effect or something. Colors seem unnaturally boosted but I'm not discounting the possibility of that being inherent to the film. I switched to the HBO Max stream halfway through because it seems to be less tampered with -- there is actually some grain.

Sorry to bump the thread and not for news of a new disc, but thought it was worth giving my impressions since I was surprised that this thread is mostly effusive praise (and not just upon initial release when expectations for a BD transfer were different) or complaints limited to the film blemishes.

I think all the blu rays have the same ancient, DVD-era master with nonsense baked-in. The Lionsgate blu is terrrible, mostly because it will rot on you. I have this:



It at least has an AVC codec and shouldn't rot. It would be nice if Lionsgate would work with Arrow and Shout.

Never noticed there was a comparison on Caps-a-holic for this one! It appears the German disc is the same master minus all the filthy DNR and sharpening. Looks SO much better!

I’m fine with the current disc until the inevitable Lionsgate UHD(along with Rejects) comes out. I have a later pressing with digital copy so it’s not affected by the rot.

That making of doc is the reason I'm still clinging to the DVD. I find it very amusing watching Rob Zombie agonizing over the cost of a pair of jeans; it's a perfect example of budgeting decisions faced by directors: do you spend more to get what you want for this thing and compromise elsewhere, or do you skimp here to have more money to throw at a different issue?

Both artwork kinda suck. Like, this is a gritty nasty TCM worship...and they give it some big bright Marvel looking comic artwork?! Or some video-game/Resident Evil looking steelbook? Big disappointment.

Maybe it's just because of how it looks compared to the sequel but first film IMO was pretty campy and colorful.

the packaging states 2 discs and there are 2 discs pictured on the overview package shot so that's a hell of a mistake lol

just seen on twitter that new bonus features are confirmed and a new RZ commentary track which is on the digital copy only
