What do you mean you have "you have to force yourself to get use to the way the picture looks"? Is it because the picture isn't as bright as other types of tvs?

The brightness Sarge1976 is exactly what I'm talking about. I think the first thing everyone notices that the panel is not as bright as others. When visitors came to the house at first, they always said the pictures looked dim. After a couple of visits and them bringing along friends to watch a movies or sports games, everyone wanted to know where they could purchase the panel from. So all I'm saying is it takes some time to get used to a very accurate picture

I couldn't agree with this more.

I have been forcing myself to watch on adjusted Pure mode settings and it really does look good after a while. I had friends over tonight and they felt the tv wasn't bright enough.

I swapped to Optimal or standard mode and they thought that was how it should look.

Then we got to a scene in the movie that is really bright and they thought it was too bright.

I explained the 'dull' look is how the movie is expected to look and the most detail is found in the picture in this mode. I then explained black levels and once that was found they noticed that right away(especially on the black bars from 2.35:1 ratio.

Anyways... I think Pioneer does look different but I think once you watch a few different types of movies on it you see it for what it offers.

Pioneer plasma inventory update

I am hearing from a very reliable source that the US Pioneer warehouse is completely out of stock on all 60 inch and 50 inch models including the top of the line Elite Signature Series. As most people are aware by now Pioneer completely stopped assembling their high quality plasma screens in the USA back in April 2009 since they were not able to make a profit on the plasma screens over the last 3 years.

Also a very large Pioneer distributor that supplies retail stores and discount mail order companies with Pioneer plasma screens just ran out of all the Pioneer models this month. So now what every is left in retail stores and at online Internet dealers is all that is left, they will not be getting any more Pioneer screens. At one time the 60 inch $7,000 PRO-141FD could be found online for slightly under $3,500 and the 50 inch $5,500 PRO-101FD could be found online for under $2,500 if one were to do a lot of bargaining with the online dealer. Now since inventories are low on the screens and there is no more in the Pioneer and Distributor warehouses, the prices might increase as we get closer to the holiday season. The PRO-141FD's are selling between $4,100-$5,000+ from most online dealers now. The PRO-101FD's are selling between $3,000-$4,000+ from most online dealers now. Sure there are better prices but not all dealers are authorized Pioneer dealers which is important to get the 2 year Elite parts and labor warranty.

The Pioneer 60 inch Elite Signature PRO-141FD, Original list price $7,000 (monitor only with no tuners, requires surround sound system or sound bar, needs optional table top stand or wall mount, The best quality screen but not for the average consumer since it has no speakers built in)

http://www1.bottomdollar.com/p__Pioneer_Elite_Kuro_PRO_141FD_60_Plasma_Display, __720664825/search=pro-141fd/st=query

Pioneer 50 inch Elite Signature PRO-101FD, Original list price $5,500(monitor only with no tuners, requires surround sound system or sound bar, needs optional table top stand or wall mount, The best quality screen but not for the average consumer since it has no speakers built in)

http://www1.bottomdollar.com/p__Pioneer_KURO_Elite_PRO_101FD_50_Plasma_Display, __722614604/search=pro-101fd/st=query

The Pioneer PRO-151FD standard Elite TV original list price is $6,500. The PRO-151FD is an excellent display for the average consumer since it includes tuners, the table top stand to install the TV and the excellent stereo side speakers that can be removed.

http://www1.bottomdollar.com/p__Pioneer_Elite_KURO_PRO_151FD_60_Plasma_TV,__812 61389/search=pro-151fd/st=query

There are also other models of Pioneer displays like the KRP-500M that can be found online for under $1700 with free shipping. The KRP-500M is a monitor only with no tuners and requires speakers and a table top stand.

Has anyone heard of a ISF calibrator named "Chad B"? I am having him calibrate my 600M at the end of October. I have checked out his website and read the customer feedback and he seems very good according to past customers, plus his price is pretty good

thanks to everyone contributing to this post... I took the plunge a few months ago and got the 151 ... got the break-in period done and applied D-Nice's setting through all the postings ... and there's no turning back now ... hoping to be motivated to get the ISF settings done with ControlCal down the road ... but really happy that I got one of these before they disappear ... thanks again...

I stopped in my local Best Buy again on Wednesday. The only Pioneer plasma models they had left were the PRO-141FD and PRO-151FD. They were both 2 cents below list price. The PRO-141FD at Best Buy was $6,999.98 (plus $399.98 for the required stand) and the PRO-151FD was $6,499.98. As mentioned in a post last week all other Pioneer models including floor models were gone. Best Buy removed the PRO-141FD from their website now. A few other models like the PRO-111FD are also gone from their website.

I briefly looked at the Samsung PN63B590 63 inch 96HZ Plasma at Best Buy that they had on sale for $2,939.98 (Reg price $3,599.98). The Samsung did not have as deep as blacks as the Pioneer. The Samsung also had some image retention at Best Buy. What was disturbing is that the Samsung 63 inch plasma was playing a BLU-RAY movie and the film grain looked terrible on it. I remember seeing the same movie in the movie theater and on a family members Pioneer PRO-141FD that was not calibrated yet. The Pioneer PRO-141FD at the factory default settings that was playing the same BLU-RAY movie had a more natural picture detail and realistic film grain. Also in the commercial movie theater the same movie looked fine. Maybe Best Buy had the Samsung in torch mode and the brightness was turned up too much. I have seen some LCD screens that are in torch mode that makes digital artifacts and film grain really stand out and makes some BLU-RAY's look terrible. Also some displays have better video processors then others.

Film grain on any BLU-RAY disc playing on a calibrated or non calibrated Pioneer plasma has not bothered me at all. The picture control settings on some plasma and LCD displays when not properly adjusted can really make some BLU-RAY's look bad and bring out a unnatural magnified film grain effect.

Hi sarge1976,

I notice that you have Panasonic BD60, Sony BDP-S550 and Oppo BDP83, how are those compared, especially the PQ? Could you also share how the PQ of the Panasonic G10 compared to Pioneer Kuro? Thanks.

BD Players-

1.Oppo
2.Sony
3.Panasonic

TVs-
1-600M(By a Mile)
2.G10

I really wish I would of waited til I save a couple hundred more to buy the 500M instead of the G10.

Thanks sarge1976!
Was hoping that you said the PQ of Sony is close to Oppo so I don't have to get the Oppo.

I'd still get the Oppo It is the best BD player I have ever owned and I have had quite a few in the past few years. $500 may seem like a lot to spend but I'm really happy with it. I remember when the Sony S500 first came out a couple of years back, I think I paid $799 for it and it didn't even have DTS-HD MA
