Next greatest rental: “From Paris With Love.”

Running along similar lines to any number of amusing and entertaining action films (like “Transporter,” “Mr and Mrs Smith,” “xXx,” etc), this film contains a thrilling mix of situational comedy and pleasing action scenes. Characters are interesting and likable; the two main characters share a bond that reminds me a lot of movies like “Lethal Weapon.” The plot’s rather predictable, and though I’m sure Travolta’s antics were meant to be gripping and provocative, I never really got the impression that anybody was in any real danger. In that respect, it’s kinda typical. But it is a fun ride.

4/5 (entertainment: 4.5/5, story: 3/5, film: 4/5)

This Blu-Ray looked awesome; very decently detailed with only a small amount of grain or noise, and with faithful color and contrast. Sound quality seemed good.

PQ: 4.5/5, AQ: 4.5/5

Day of the Dead” 2007.

A movie on clearance. Wasn’t expecting much, but I figured that $9 for some senseless blood and guts would be acceptable (especially to go with the “Dawn of the Dead” movies that I wound up buying).

Yep, this seems like a typical zombie flick. Everybody’s running, sneaking around, and getting eaten up. This film does have its amusing moments and some thrilling moments. Definitely plenty of action and gore. There are also some dumb moments too.

3.5/5 (entertainment: 3.5/5, story: 3/5, film: 3.5/5)

Wasn't really paying that close attention to this Blu-Ray to tell what the PQ was like; from where I sat way in the back, it looked like a decent transfer with a decent amount of detail. I'm sure closer inspection will reveal noise, especially since a lot of scenes were dark. Sound quality however is loud and bombastic.

PQ: 3.5/5, AQ: 4/5

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.”

From start to finish, this film is flipping hilarious, loaded with great dialogue, sight gags, and crazy situations. It looks fantastic visually, and has superb animation quality. At its core, it’s a very fun story with lots of imaginative setpieces and SFX. Characters are strong and likable (if not quirky and silly). And beneath it all, it’s a fascinating moral story concerning excess.

5/5 (entertainment: 5/5, story: 4/5, film: 5/5)

This Blu-Ray looks and sounds darn near like reference quality!

PQ: 5/5, AQ: 5/5

Wings of Desire (Criterion)

To be quite honest i think this movie is boring and i could of used 2hrs doing something else. Im not a film snob at all and im very easily entertained but this story could of been told in about 30mins. I did enjoy a small number of things within the film but i guess this just wasn't my cup of tea.

Centurion.”

Stylistically, this film is similar to other rough and gritty historical epics like “The Pathfinder” or “Valhalla Rising,” with a plot somewhat similar to “The Last Legion” or that one version of “King Arthur.” As such, I found “Centurion” to be more of the same, for better or for worse.

“Centurion” has a decent amount of good fight scenes, lots of blood and guts, some hot wicked-looking chicks. As a story, it has a pretty average story with average characters. I can’t say it really grabbed me wholly on this initial viewing. I initially got this film because it involves the conflict between the Romans and the Pictish Kingdom (which I only recently ever heard about), but I found very little historical insight in this film (though it was cool to see Hadrian’s Wall being built towards the end). I doubt anything is really accurate; it’s just for entertainment. The movie has excellent photography in many parts, and the production value is good.

3.5/5 (entertainment: 3.5/5, story: 3/5, film: 4/5)

This British Blu-Ray looks and sounds awesome. There is some fine film grain, but the picture is very detailed. Colors are a little grayed-out, but I think that’s an artistic effect. Contrast is excellent. Sound quality seemed good.

PQ: 4.5/5, AQ: 4/5

This Blu-Ray is Region-B locked. But I think a US release has been announced already.

The Shawshank Redemption(Blu-ray)

Director: Frank Darabont
Cast: Morgan Freeman, Tim Robbins, Bob Gunton & William Sadler
Nominated for 7 Oscars

Film:5/5
This is such a great film. I absolutely love it. The acting is top notch by everyone, which is a hard thing to come by in film. Morgan Freeman is so good in this from the narrative to the acting. Tim Robbins is great also. He plays that character perfectly.

The film is def a sad one and it is def something I think everyone can connect with and feel for the characters. The friendship that is between the guys in this is beautiful. They all look out for each other.

There is so much I could say about this film but I need to stop. If you haven't seen this film def pick this up and watch it asap.

In plain sight, the job he takes up is socially unacceptable and disgraceful, but as the film unfolds, it is grace and respect that the viewer and other characters gain and understand about his particular job as well as a sense of maturity, meaning, and peace about the death of loved ones. The skepticism dissolves into admiration. I watched this with my gf, who was completely unwilling to watch it, but gave it a shot anyway. She found it morbid and depressing at first, threatening to leave and watch something else, but by the end she cried with a sense of guilt, comprehension, and awe because the film unveiled its lesson to the viewer and sub-characters alike. The important thing is what it will mean to you.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World

I cant believe im saying this only because of my first impression of the film but this movie 'd in every aspect. Originality, Entertainment, Story (If you like the game) and Overall experience. I found my self laughing throughout the entire movie and saying "DAMN" because of the action and special effects. Truly a treat and worth watching for any viewer. Trying to explain the movie without giving any spoilers away i would describe this film as: Fight Club/Zombieland's direction with the video game perks added with excessive humor.

Once again i thought this was a serious treat and i cant wait for the blu ray release. I always had in the back of my mind why did the critics rate this film so highly on rotten tomatoes but now i can see for myself. I was skeptical about giving this film a perfect score but all snobbishness aside it was perfect. I remember giving shaun of the dead and hot fuzz 5/5 so i will give the same rating for this awesome film.

5/5

Takers

I thought this was a good heist film with ok acting. I would of said the acting was great but T.I. (Tip Harris) was original doing a good job but
[Show spoiler] at the armored truck heist he was talking way to much
. So to let you know this is a heist film mixed with drama, of course action and a little suspense! Overall i thought it was fun and fast paced. It was good to hear Idris Elba speak normal being that he's from the UK area. Cool movie, fast paced, filled with action.

3.5/5

The Green Zone.”

Great, more shaky camera.

Well, that only gets annoying some of the time. I found the Borne movies to be worse (at least I did when I viewed them; by today’s standards I might not be so critical. I guess I should give them another try…).

Regardless, “The Green Zone” follows in the same rough gritty seemingly-realistic (emphasis on seemingly) style of “Body of Lies” and “The Hurt Locker.” “GZ” distinguishes itself from the others through its unique interactions between the characters (I found the scenes between Matt Damon’s character and the Iraqi dude interesting), and its focus on the underlying political turmoil (finding the reasons for the war, showing the consequences of it, etc). Action scenes are sudden and explosive. Production value seems good. My only complaints are that the film didn’t grab me wholly and it felt pretty long.

3.5/5 (entertainment: 3.5/5, story: 3.5/5, film: 3.5/5)

This Blu-Ray looks darn near perfect, and has a very explosive soundtrack.

PQ: 4.5/5, AQ: 4.5/5

The British Blu-Ray steelbook is region-free.

There Will Be Blood(Netflix)

Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Cast: Daniel Day-Lewis & Paul Dano
Awards: Nominated for 8 Oscars & Won 2(Best Actor & Best Cinematography)

Film:5/5
What a brilliant/beautiful film. I have seen bits and pieces of this before but never the whole thing. I love the way the film starts off with no score or music. It really grabbed my attention. A long film but it flew by. I can't believe this was 2 1/2 hours long. It seemed shorter.

DDL is brilliant in this and most def deserved an Oscar for this role. Paul Dano did a ridiculous job as well. I really like him as an actor because he brings it for every role.

The story was pretty intense, especially the ending.

Def check this out if you haven't yet because this is something that really kept me thinking and wanting more every minute.
