Any idea what movie will be available tomorrow? Hoping it's The Meg.

Helios and Matheson just posted their quarterly report (we knew this was coming soon as the last one was filed May 15). As expected, it was a massive loss at $126.6 million, compared to the $2.7 million they lost in this period last year before the new MP model

This is starting to sound like a Monty Python sketch. The cancellations of the people who have cancelled have been cancelled.

Based off your own post history in this thread it sounds like the sign was made specifically for you.

(Yes, I know)

And I did get an email confirmation stating that everything is canceled and never got an error in the app when canceling.

Not lately. The field has thinned out quite a bit. Still some minor support but very few champions left. It was always a matter of time before MP eventually got to everyone.

I've probably been defending MP on here as long if not longer than the other two.

I just got tired of running into the same cyclical arguments. Not worth my time.

Agreed. You, me, JLF, Jacob, and anyone else I left out. The thread has just become so toxic and repetitive, we’re posting less. But the support is still clearly there.

We still wanna save. We’re not rich, you know.

So MoviePass now has the new 3 per month plan on their website and guess what, you will only have “up to six” films per day to choose from. They will now officially only be supporting 6 or less movies per day. So the way the app is now IS how it will be.

No matter what happens, I absolutely do feel MP deserves credit for popularizing the subscription model. But often the company that starts a new model isn't around to see it succed, and I think the subscription model needs a chain to work where the economics make more sense and the company is more reliable (AMC or Regal would not try and pull the shady moves MP has).

Last year, I thought it was an amazing service but knew the business model was insane and doubted it would last, though I figured they would raise prices and/or put a cap on it before some of the bizarre decisions they made. What turned me off the company was when they suddenly and quietly blocked some AMC locations and Red Sparrow in certain markets. The latter didn't effect me at all, but it showed to me that their plan was to try and use their subscribers to extort theaters and studios in and they would hurt their susbscrbers experience if need be in negotiations (not to mention Lowe always struck me as a snake from the start and hated how even earlier he would say that users who saw one or two movies every week, well within their rights on the service, were abusing the service). And of course that extortion plan, as well as a long pattern misleading statements to investors, the press, and members, has only become more evident since.

I am not too worried about any unauthorized charges, since I have already replaced my payment on file with a prepaid debit card with just two cents on it. I was actually going to call this week to see if they could un-cancel me, but with this one film a day thing is bs. If they do get better and the three per month brings stability as more and more people are transitioned into the new policy, I might see about uncanceling. I would use Sinema, but the virtual card may be a deal breaker. Plus, it would take 5-6 months before it becomes beneficial to me.

One of the reasons why I chose The Darkest Minds today (missed the showing of Blackkklansman I wanted) instead of The Meg. I figured it would be either The Meg, Skyscraper, JWFK or whatever movie besides Slenderman and MIF that is still out for most of their users in which most of their users have already seen.

What's going to happen is they will support one wide release and 2 or 3 small indie films that are only playing in New York City or Los Angeles

I've reached the end of my rope:

Got a ticket reserved for Alpha on Thursday. Quick and no hoops to jump through. Highly recommend it if you have an AMC nearby

Just cancelled.

Truth be told, I have a baby on the way on/around Labor Day, so my moviegoing is about to come to a halt anyways, but I was willing to keep MoviePass active in case I would be able to catch at least 1 movie per month. Even if I missed a month or two, no big deal.

But man, after the way that they've been dicking people around, I have no interest in giving them any more of my money. I'll gladly pay double for AMC A-List when I'm able to take better advantage of it.

A lot of users have reported MoviePass continued to charge them after they canceled

Keep an eye on your credit card statements and dispute the transaction if they do charge you

It's kind of funny, i was one of the original supporters way back when we were all waiting for our cards. and made it clear multiple times I wanted them to survive. As I've stated before. Yet I get called out as being negative cause of a joke on one of their emails that it sounded like they might start blocking indies as well(which they did).

I decided to move on elsewhere, I wasn't able to see a single thing. It was just going to waste. There are a few of us who just wanted to start saving money elsewhere while still hoping MP survived and worked things out. Doesn't mean we all have to be branded as "traitors" like we failed people. lol

At the risk of being accused of casting unnecessary shade...

Those who were banking on MoviePass going back to "normal" on September 15th when everyone's switched over to 3 movies/month, just had their hopes dashed with the new website refresh:

"Choose from up to 6 films daily."

They are going to continue to select what movies and showtimes you can and cannot see. UP TO does not mean "You'll get 6 films to choose from."

1 film available per day would fulfill the up to 6 films requirement. They could also include indies that are only playing in a few theatres, for example Monday's movies were:

Slender Man (2,358 Theaters)
Miseducation of Cameron Post (25 Theaters)
Madeline's Madeline (1 Theater)
Skate Kitchen (1 Theater)

So they can say, "You had four films to choose from on Monday."

Crazy Rich Asians already marked as a premium screening today. No one gets to see that, apparently.
