Oh well, hopefully this means they add more tour dates, and one in MO. Saw Megadeth a month ago, and Slayer at Mayhem Fest, and would easily go to see both of them again.

You guys should check out a band by the name of "Van Canto". They are a german Metal band, but all their songs are in english.

They aren't just ordinary metal however. They are an A Cappella Metal band. They have a drummer, and 5 vocalists. Their first album is mostly original songs, with the exception of their covery of "Battery" by Metallica. Their second album has a lot more covers, from bands like Nightwish, Blind Guardian, Deep Purple, Manowar, and Iron Maiden, but it also contains 5 original songs.

Search them up on Youtube, and their site http://www.vancanto.de/

Is anyone in this group of metalheads into the shredder/virtuoso style guitarists like Satriani, Malmsteen, Angelo-Batio, and such? I've been really big on these types of musicians for years.

Also, there was this documentary about Metallica on the Biography channel last night. I was only able to catch the last half, as I noticed it in my channel guide well after it started. It was pretty interesting, though. I could only imagine what it would be like to be in a band for 20-30 years, and how egos, styles and tastes of music, (and everything else that changes about a person over the years) would eventually lead to some pretty serious strife amongst bandmates.

I listen to some those guys. I saw (not together) Satriani and Malmsteen back in the early 90s. I like some of Steve Vai's music. I also used to listen to Racer X (Paul Gilbert) and Cacophony (Marty Friedman/Jason Becker). Both bands had horrible singers but the music was cool. I'm still a big Marty Friedman fan. Jason Becker was diagnosed with ALS. He's still alive and he's makes music with a computer.

Nowadays I like shredders who aren't solely focused on being virtuosos..Michael and Chris Amott from Arch Enemy, Jeff Loomis/Nevermore or Alexi/Children of Bodom etc. They tear it up but the band as a whole is also good.

Very cool, man. I have a feeling there aren't too many in this thread who are into the shredder-heavy music. I've heard a lot of both Racer X and Cacophony on Pandora, but don't own any of their music. They're both really good and I would be into checking them out if they came to my general area for a show. I've got a bit of Children of Bodom, too.

I tend to prefer bands where everyone shreds, which can many times be the case in the virtuoso bands such as the ones I mentioned. It's just that you never know the names of any of the other band members because they're not the featured act of the band.

I like a lot of the older shredders, although aome I haven't heard in years. Malmsteen's first 5 or 6 solo ones were great as was his work with Alcatrazz and Steeler (although I have never been a fan of Ron Keel's voice. Satriani is great. I like some Vai but his style is a bit chaotic for me. Others often overlooked were Tony MacAlpine and Chris Impellitteri.

I've always enjoyed Impellitteri's work as well as most of Malmsteem's. Especially his latest . Racer X is OK.. Vinnie Vincent Invasion had two excellent albums in the self titled Vinnie Vincent Invasion and All Systems Go.

I feel the same way about Steve Vai. I like him, but sometimes his stuff gets a little out there for me. I think it's all the crazy effects he usually has in his songs.

I've also heard a ton of Tony MacAlpine by way of Pandora as well. Man, that program is so cool because of stuff like that. I'd never even heard of him until I had an iPhone. Gotta love Tony's old hair style!

Michale Angelo Batio may have him beat, though! That guy has epic hair.

Never too much Malmsteen if you ask me. I've always got tons of his music on me wherever I go.

Sanctuary's (Original band of Nevermore vocalist Warrel Dane) Refuge Denied and Into The Mirror Black to be reissued on a single CD. I really wish it was a remastering but I'll take what I can get.
