Huh? I have Things to Come and it comes in a standard clear Amaray (like MoC/Arrow/BFI often use) and several more of their earlier Blu-ray releases come in standard blue Amarays as well (e.g. Odd Man Out). No slim cases as far as I'm aware of.

However, Black Narcissus - and most of their singular (i.e. non-box set) Blu-ray releases over the last few years - comes in a slim Viva Elite-type case (the exact brand actually varies from release to release).

Ah ok - I just thought it looked like a clear slimcase from the pictures. Do you also own Black Narcissus? I just ordered it as it was part of a 3 for 20 deal on Amazon, and from reviews it seems that it is about as good as the criterion. Loads of extras and a booklet as well I think. What are your thoughts?

I also chose the cheap option of Mulholland Drive as it was part of the same deal. And honestly I think the StudioCanal digipacks are nice.

IIRC, my Network 'Black Narcissus' came in a slim blue case.

Of course I own it - it's my favourite Powell & Pressburger film that I've seen so far! I used to have the ITV disc but sold it on to make way for the Network disc because they added special features, booklet and brilliant new artwork. In my opinion it looks slightly better than the ITV disc (better encode I think), and I don't have the Criterion/Carlotta to compare but from reviews of those I don't think it's any worse than those - and it's much cheaper too. It's certainly one of the best Network discs I own!

How does the StudioCanal digibook compare to the Criterion release? Is it Criterion who released the 4K master?

I can confirm The Ghoul, The Monster Club, Mine Own Executioner, Tower of Terror, Warn That Man and Waterfront are BD25s.

The Tamarind Seed is BD50.

They're Back! - BBC Announcement

The early days of our fledging label saw us rescuing Robinson Crusoe, crossing borders into Communist-state fairyland and presenting some old public information films to a baffled 21st century audience. It all looked just a bit weird on paper.

These unusual and now almost library-standard releases led us, inevitably, to ask for more of the same but we instead got ’The Goodies’, ‘Ripping Yarns’ and ’Till Death Us Do Part’ for our troubles.

So now we are almost back where we started, having recently concluded an agreement with the BBC to revisit some of our older releases as well as bring a lot of new material to add to our range. Towards the end of the year and beyond we’ll be releasing complete* series box sets of shows that we’d distributed many years ago including 'The Goodies', 'Till Death Us Do Part' and ‘Sykes’ amongst rarer fare like ‘All Passion Spent’ and ‘Johnny Jarvis’, some Screen Two presentations such as ’The Vision’, bafflingly unreleased classics like ’The Life And Times Of David Lloyd George’ and much more.

We’ll be sharing news on these releases with you as we work through them but you’ll need to be patient. There are substantial technical and clearance issues to attend to but it is underway as we write. The first titles will appear before the end of the year, hopefully sooner.

So no word on Blu-ray yet, but this is nevertheless extremely exciting news. Beggars really can't be choosers when it comes to archive TV. The BFI have truly spoiled us of late.

A lot of those shows were standard definition videotape so there'd be no advantage to releasing them on Blu-ray. Some of the BBC shows that were shot entirely on 16mm may be an option down the line - the Beeb's BD of Spearhead from Space showed just how good that can look - but with so many of their shows mixing tape and brief 16mm exteriors (and not terribly well looked after), in most cases it would simply be a case of magnifying flaws rather than discovering detail.

From my point of view, the title I'm excited about the most is Shoestring. Have got 2entertain's DVD release of the first series (think there was just the one substituted music track), and have wondered if we would ever get the second (and sadly, final series). The BFI released The Boy from Space the year before last; I'm hoping another Look and Read serial Dark Towers gets a DVD release (from Network hopefully) sooner rather than later.

I don't normally get too bothered by release date changes but i've been really looking forward to this one! Sold my DVD in anticipation a while ago now.
