A lot of the movie took place in corridors or dark caves and such. Most of the beatiful scenery of the City is in the trailers.

I loved the movie. It still baffles me how someone could hate such a true cinematic masterpiece. This is unique, original, and by far one of the best films to date yet. The breathtaking views in 3D make this movie amazing. I don't care if real3dornot calls it fake because even if it was post conversion, it was still breath taking to see in 3D. I loved the dialogue between the two characters and they really did have chemistry. I guess this film will go down in history as a cult film only weird artist people like? I have no idea but I really thoroughly enjoyed watching this on opening night. This movie will be a day 1 purchase for me.

As flawed as it may be, it's still a dazzling piece of escapism. I had a blast.
Also, it's dismal box office is disappointing, but I don't want to hear squat about the film's quality having to do with it. It's familiarity pure and simple. Sequels, remakes, and popular reputations wins box office, not originality. Audiences have made blockbusters out of mediocrity plenty of times. Last edited by jess1581; 07-22-2017 at 09:40 PM. |

I vastly prefer a good sequel when I see one than a mediocre movie which isn't part of a franchise or whatever. Missing this is missing the whole thing. |

Yup... this will no doubt be mostly a 'love it or hate it' flick. The flaws will be oh so glaring to those who hate it... and not so noticeable to those who love it. But damn it all... I really enjoyed it. Do I know it's flawed... yup... I sure do. But man... I had a ball watching Valerian!!! Cult Classic material for sure. 3.5 out of 5 stars... rounded up to 4... because... I appreciated the effort to try and make something different other than tired sequels to tired franchises.
Put it this way... I'd rather see Valerian than Pirates of the Caribbean 13 or Transformers 17 any day. |

Talking about the box-office is considered shitting on a film? I haven't even seen the movie yet, I don't know if it's good or bad. You guys need to grow thicker skin, I swear.

I saw this film this afternoon & it was a very fun & entertaining film that is the definition of Luc Besson. Colorful & reminiscent of the Fifth Element. The 3D presentation was done nicely as well. Plus it had plenty of Cara & her eyebrows.

Saw it this afternoon, really dug the production design, it was interesting and some of the best scifi in years. The two leads, heavy exposition and main plot and twists however? Those left me cold. I love 5th Element, but Valerian just isn't as fun and is too long for how joyless it can be. Rihanna was actually a bright spot, but was in it way to little. And the cgi was overabundant and unconvincing. I still give it an average score, 3/5, but I wished for a lot more.

Saw it 7pm tonight in 4DX, sold out showing.
Funny how some reviewers said people were either going to love or hate it, with hardly anyone saying "meh, it's okay", as that's how I felt. Certainly liked the design of the film and the set pieces were all fun, the problem was the story in between those sequences was never engaging and didn't like most of the characters (also the romance subplot was bizarrely handled). |
