You will have vast minority representation but the so-called "purists" are throwing shit fits because the black female Dwarve does not have a beard. Now pretend you're not a Tolkien LOTR fanboy, from an outsider point of view, how the f would it look to a person of color to see a black female Dwarve with a beard? It would look like a minstrel show -- as if they were being made fun of. It's bad optics. I understand why it's being done (not having a beard on the female Dwarve) but am not butthurt like some on here.

It's about hiring based on diversity rather than talent. Could they be missing out on great actors because they HAVE to be a certain skin colour?

And the same applies in the opposite direction too. If Galardiel and Elrond were cast to be white, didn't those actors get their roles only on the basis of race rather than talent?

But now that’s become a crutch. the problem has turned into obsessively scanning each film for people of color like an autistic child obsessing over parts of a toy train. You see one person of color and suddenly it’s a huge travesty that will suck the entire value of it all down the toilet.
