Here's a good one for you.

My girlfriend works with some goon who told her watching Halloween on UHD BD would be a big step away from how it's supposed to look as 4K will just make it artificially enhanced. He said these kind of movies shouldn't be watched this way. lol

Sounds like he’s jelly that he doesn’t have a 4K setup

Now, Halloween is pretty much my favorite film of all time, so it's an instant buy no matter what. If it's botched somehow and some other distributor does a better job with a 4K disc again in the future, I'll buy that too. But I anxiously await the day for this film to get a release that's truly definitive so I won't feel the need to buy it anymore.
I'm hoping 4k is the last stop too. I really don't see 8k improving 35mm or digital much at all, and I don't care about 3D coming back in any fashion. However I also said 4k probably wouldn't improve 35mm movies much, and boy was I wrong about that! Some very angry person in the normal BD section chewed my ass out for that not long ago, but hey... many of us didn't think UHD would be as much of an improvement as it is. I'm happy to be proven wrong in that case. So we'll see... who knows... hopefully this is the end, but you never know.

I keep telling myself there are movies I won't upgrade to UHD because they're 80's trash or middling movies. Both Christine and Robin Hood are movies I likely would have said BD was fine for though, and yet both are coming Tuesday, so I'm really deep in this thing and god knows. Watch me get Death Wish 3 on UHD someday.

My heart would flutter if any of the DW’s came out. Love 80’s trash.

Oh I do too my friend. Outside of sci-fi, 80's trash is probably my most loved genre. I just think BD is probably good enough for stuff like that... right? Please? Oh hell, I'd buy Death Wish 3 on UHD wouldn't I... shit...

I said the same thing but if some of the Canon titles gets a release all bets are off for me. I always watch the Death Wishes this time of year so I’ll be spinning those soon.

Thanks!

Not really interested in cards so that's fine by me.

Strange that this title is not listed among the UHD pre-orders.

The world would be a much quieter place if those who didn't know what they were talking about would just step back and let those who do know what they are talking about do the talking.

Well, he arguably has a point. Even Geoff will tell you that theatrical exhibition accuracy is kind of out the window with UHD. The dynamic range is higher and the added fine detail from a 4k OCN scan likely wasn't visible in theaters. It's only wide color gamut that is an undeniable accuracy benefit.

Higher dynamic range is a positive though, as well as fine detail. Nothing he said is any sort of valid point, because nothing in the image is "artificially enhanced", it's organic to the negative. If they artificially boost colors, then that's another can of worms, but also we're talking if they do it right.

Sure, but a lot of people have the goal of "matching the theatrical exhibition" rather than "matching the original intent." So it depends on who you're talking to and what their goals are. Some of us were just talking about this in some other thread. I've kind of resigned myself to "original intent" now, but a few years ago I would have said theatrical exhibition.

I’m watching the A&E special on this now and the release date can’t come soon enough.
