This is the most likely explanation. I've dealt a little with the world of distribution and marketing, and it's remarkable what some of these departments don't know about the films they're selling (and also don't take the time to find out).

Probably that's how pick-up shots were done back in the day.

Wasn't a pick-up. Although the movie is set in New York it was of course shot entirely in England, and the 'New York Street' lot that was created for the film was continually redressed over and over and over again. That set was fairly big but it didn't allow for the kind of 'infinite' depth of field that so bewitched Kubrick so they sent a team over to NY to film Steadicam plates of the actual city streets and then back-projected it behind TC for that walking shot.

Just came back from the Cannes screening. Wow, that extended ending was really something. Can't believe Danny turned out to be a xenomorph the whole time.

It's probably harder to tell on a DVD, but even on the flawed blu ray of Eyes Wide Shut, you can definitely tell that there is something a little off with the background of that scene. The same goes with The Shining when the family are driving to the Overlook and having a conversation. Curious whether they'll alter the gamma, saturation, etc. some more try to hide it better for UHD.

I'm too absorbed by the movie at that point to care.

Man, Bill Hunt couldn't scoop ice cream.

His wording is pathetic. It was already known that it would be the US cut. His sources are forums like this.

Finally, the resounding silence after the screening said it all.

Glad it is just the regular Kubrick approved cut.

Agreed, but It would be better if it were both approved cuts.

I recall reading that it was intentionally designed to feel "off", in which case hiding it would defeat the purpose.

Very sad the original ending is not in there but from 2001 to this there is nothing new anywhere, it's just the same special features from over a decade ago. It seems like all they are doing with each new format is updating the picture and sound quality.

It may be that once Kubrick's family passes away that this is when they will truly open their vaults or maybe it is just down to Warner Bros. Hopefully this mix up which has been picked up on social media, hopefully it will spur some kind of response to Warner Bros about the mix up and why they were so detailed......details we now know are false.....about what version would be released and if anything maybe shows them how much interest there was in seeing the original version.

Or that since he is dead he does not have much say in the matter.
