Ok,

U-571 came from Netflix - have not seen this on Blu - it's been a few years (maybe 5+) since I saw this.

I'm looking forward to seeing how my PA-120 handles this one. Any scenes in particular? I'm sure the "depth charges" scene will rock!

Just make sure any large furniture is tied down. The movie as a whole, but especially that scene will absolutely shake your house.

Looks like there are 2 screws there - so hopefully it's easy enough to pop it out and replace with a new one. I'm guessing you (or someone) would have to pop out the amp to replace the part.

Let us know how it goes. I'm sure SD will get back to you with a solution.
Yeah, I don't want to do anything that will void the warranty, so I'm looking forward to SD's response. I'll keep you guys updated.

Eric Winston from Sound Distributors just got back to me. He noted that since the back is sealed, there is really no way to fix the amp. He will be sending a new amp, at no cost to me. He said it's quite easy to fix, it's really just plug and play.

I tell you, this has been one of the few companies that really service their customers extremely well. As Aero has noted many times before, I have absolutely no problems recommending this company, as well as the PA-120 to other folks. It's been a joy to communicate with them.

I was going to say CALL or Email "ERIC WINSTON" directly, but per your later post (below), it looks like they are taking care of you, as I figured they would. Glad they're hooking you up at NO Cost buddy!

Well, actually, there are quite a few Depth Charge scenes, and overall, the Audio on this movie is EXCELLENT start to finish. But the One MAIN Depth Charge scene is when they get Absolutely PUMMELED with Repeated Depth Charges that ends up disabling their Sub. GOOD LORD, if you play that anywhere Near "reference level", tie down ANYTHING you might be afraid of breaking!! I'm 100% serious. That scene makes YOU feel as if you're In the Sub with the men. One could only imagine how it was back then being in a Sub with ships above you dropping these bombs pretty much on top of & around you if you were unlucky enough to be located.

Gotta love them, and especially, ERIC there, huh?

When I ordered Both my PA-120's, he was very quick with replys on Any questions I had on ordering & expected delivery; especially on the 1st one when they were having 3+ Week b/orders with everyone ordering the Black ones. My 2nd one arrived fairly fast thankfully.

Again, Very good news on this hopefully being a Minor issue in the end Woodley56'. Let us know how it turns out...

Cool. Btw, you planning on ordering a 2nd one (or do you not really have the space for it?).

Haha yes I do, but currently I do not have the space for it. Sometime next year I will be remodling the basement. It won't be a dedicated HT, but it will take up most of the room. At that time I'll be upgrading to a second PA-120.

Also at that time, I'll be upgrading my fronts as well. I currently have the CS2 as my center, M40's for fronts and M30's for surrounds. I will keep the CS2, move the M40's as surrounds and the M30's as rear surrounds. I'll be getting towers, but at this time I don't know what to get.

Sounds good, the dedicated room for your HT; good luck on that! As for the other question(s), I have the CS2 also & for a couple weeks, had the 30's & 40's (rear & side surrounds). Have you thought about trying out the POLK FxiA4's or 6's vice the 30's & 40's? They (IMO) look very nice & in their Bipole mode, work Extremely well with Immersing you in sound, vice the more Directed audio with the 30's & 40's. Just my opinion, but the A4's & 6's can be had (the POLK AUDIO Ebay store I believe) for $339/Pair (A4's), and $399 & up (the A6's)

Yes I have thought about them. Since they won't be on the high priority list right now (front setup, second sub, amp, furniture), I'll be OK with the M series for now. But yes down the road I will certainly be looking at those. Curse you folks and your upgrades!!!

I remember reading a few pages back that someone had claimed the PA-120 could reach 18Hz, has there been any confirmation of this?

Justin

Justin
according the the IASCA 2001-2002 OFFICIAL SOUND QUALITY COMPETITION DISC
TRACK 5 is for tonal Accuracy/SpectralBalance Evaluation "SUPERMAN: The Planet Krypton" (john williams) performed by the cincinnati pops orchestra -erik kunzel: director
from Telarc cd #80146: "star tracks 2" 1987

recorded with an organ it tests a systems low-frequency extension, midrange smoothness and overall bass capabilities.

The music hall's massive Baldwin multi-waveform organ is fully exercised with a sustained, extremely low frequency pedal note blasts beginning at 1:09 into the piece. these organ notes should be felt more than actually heard, and extend all the way down to 18hz ............

i cant say that i could hear it but i could tell that it was being played due to that ultra low frreq feeling you get in your ear.... but i had to turn my rcvr up pretty loudly..

i did a review somewhere in this thread discussing more about it..

Jwilly, that was me, back on page 37 in this thread. I was hoping that someone would confirm that. If you have a VE calibration disk on blu-ray, try it yourself. Run the subwoofer sweep tests. They start at 15 Hz. FYI, I ran the sweep test at reference level. At that level all my speakers read +75 db SPL from my listening position during the VE speaker calibration tests. In my AVR, the subwoofer output is set +3 db hotter than the rest of the speakers at reference level. Reference level is very loud, so use caution. On my AVR, the volume contol reads +3.5 db. Of couse, I never listen to movies with it that loud. Normally, my listening level is with the volume control set at -20 db or -23.5 db below reference level.

Also FYI, don't expect to hear any sound at 18 Hz. I only felt it. My SPL meter only started detecting measurable spl when the sweep test was on 20 HZ. I could both hear and feel 20 Hz. I have no doubt that most people with PA 120s will too.

Well I was playing around with sub placement yesterday in anticipation of getting a second pa-120 in a month or so. Found the left corner to be the best. I think Im gonna place the second pa-120 in between the love seat and main couch. Ill have to see when I actually get it though
