The Emperor never gave a damn about protecting the Republic; he played both sides so he could overthrow it and kick-start the Empire. All he wanted was "absolute power" and all the perks that come with it; the terrorist-hunting angle (something he himself instigated by secretly siding with the Trade Federation and setting up the Separatist movement) just gave him all the right excuses to sway the senate so they can give him more executive powers.

Anakin was being played and he didn't even know it, so a lot of his actions up to ROTS have been noble in spirit. When he becomes Vader, his actions become selfish (because he wanted to save Padme), and like the Emperor, he didn't care for the government. He became Palpatine's puppet to eliminate all threats; nothing the two of them did was to "save" the government, but to corrupt it for personal gains.

Even if you make the argument that the Emperor and Vader are on the defensive, they didn't need to go so far as killing younglings and purging the Jedi Order (we all saw how Palpatine used Mace Windu so sucker everybody else; that was a BS excuse to eliminate another threat). The Jedi themselves were there to defend the Republic; their overthrow came because they were seen as an actual threat, but because they were more casualties in the rise of an oppressive dictatorship (just like in history).

Above all, the morality of killing and purging entire people as a means to an end (even galactic peace) is highly debatable. At least the Jedi sought compromise when they could; the Emperor just crushed everything.

I did too (though not in the special way that you seem to ). That's why he should RIP and not be cheapened by some half-baked resurrection. Let's have a new Sith follow in his footsteps!

This pilot looks very much like Adam Driver.

He might not be a villain after all.

Or he's a spy. Or he switches sides.

I hope that photo proves most leaks false, since most leaks have made the plot sound terrrrrrrrible.

There will almost certainly be a return of the sith and probably a new enemy to boot. Personally I'd like to see a remnant of the Empire try to make one last attempt to regain control under a new leader.
If Luke is in exile, I assume its because he doesn't want to pass on his knowledge, is forbidden or he himself is grappling with the Dark Side of the Force (Like in ROTJ) and may be a threat to the New Republic.

It could be that Luke doesn't want the knowledge of the force to be passed on in fear of training another Sidious or Vader in the future. As long as he dies and doesn't pass on his knowledge, the Galaxy will be at peace from Force users. It could also be that everyone is afraid of Luke too and has banished him out of fear. Lots of possibilities.

I don't understand why Luke would be in exile. The Empire has been defeated and the last of the known Sith are gone. I also don't see why he wouldn't want to pass on the knowledge of the force considering he's the last of the Jedi. It's too important to hold onto and let die off.
Practically speaking, a new trilogy without the force, Jedi's or lightsabres would be lame so it's going to happen one way or another. Luke passing it on to a new generation is the logical guess.

But I'm not just talking about the EU (which pretty much consists of the novels, comics, and video games) -- I'm talking about the Clone Wars being mentioned in Episode IV, I'm talking about the Prequel films, and I'm talking about The Clone Wars television series -- all of which is considered canon! You may not like the idea of cloning, but it is definitely a part of the Star Wars mythology and can't easily be ignored like Jar Jar Binks.

I think the point is that he HAS passed on what he knows, but he himself has become so powerful that he's afraid of how that power could be corrupted by the Dark Side, what with his father's prior rap sheet (and let's not forget that Yoda said that Luke "had much anger in him, like his father") which is why he goes into hiding. That's what I like about these rumours, because they've done the logical thing, as you said, by making him train everyone but that's been and gone already, so the next logical step is to make him so powerful with the Force (partially fulfilling his father's thwarted destiny) that he doesn't know what to do with it anymore.

I like the idea of him being on Dagobah because it's basically a nexus between the Living Force (real world) and the Cosmic Force (the "afterlife", to put it simply) which is why Yoda pitched up there in the first place (Clone Wars S6 is required viewing) and Luke can fully explore all the facets of the Force with no danger of harming anyone but himself. It wouldn't surprise me if he marooned himself there to make sure that he never gets off planet.

This is exactly how I feel. I really don't want Palpatine to return, whether it be through cloning, possession or whatever else. It'd cheapen the character and, maybe most importantly, suck all the power out of ROTJ's ending.

Let's leave Palpatine out of this (flashbacks and references would be okay though as he can remain dead that way) and give us some new Sith. There's plenty of potential there.

I would be ok with Palpatine returning on the sole basis that Ian McDiarmid returns and we get to see him truly kick some ass with a lightsaber.

I also want to see some new Force powers. Lightning and such has been done. I want to see something epic like crash a Star Destroyer into a planet using the Force (yes, I know it's from the game but that would be epic).

I think what we got in ROTS is as much as I need to see of Palpatine using a lightsaber (not saying I dislike it, I greatly enjoy his duel with Yoda for example). As for what you say about new force powers, we could get plenty of that from other Sith, and Jedi for that matter. If the rumors about Luke becoming the most powerful force user yet are true, being able to move mountains and so on, taking down a Star Destroyer seems like something he could do.

I think that his duel with Sam Jackson was absolute shit but thats just me and thats coming from one of the biggest fans of the Emperor character.

In terms of new powers, if Palpatine was to return, I harken back to the last words of Yoda, "Do Not Underestimate the Powers of the Emperor". I just want to see him regain his Empire, tear the galaxy a new one and see a new group attempt to bring him down. He is such a masterful character one of cinema's greatest villains and if done right, will add to his legacy of Evil!

If I can't get Palpatine, bring on Darth Plageus.

Yoda and Palpatine should have never weilded lightstabers IMO. It should have been written that they are so powerful with the force,It would be "beneath" them to use them.

I am on board with this line of thinking as well. The duel between Voldemort and Dumbledore was what the Palpatine & Yoda fight could have been.

My only question is when they bring the Emperor back, are they going to spend the first 1/3 of the movie with him pretending to be someone else so we can have the big reveal? I can see it now - "My name is Khannnnn, oops I mean The Emperor!"

2 Sith put the entire Galaxy under its boot and almost killed everything that was good. Any well trained Jedi could become Sith or Dark Jedi by turning to the Dark Side, it could only take one to threaten the new republic or destroy it altogether. Wouldn't it be easier for Luke to not pass on the knowledge and let it die with him? Thus eliminating the threat of the Sith or Dark Force users forever? At the very least it would allow the New Republic eons before anyone without the knowledge of the Jedi or Sith to ever get as powerful again. I am assuming without a teacher you could NEVER reach close to your full potential. Thus it would take untrained Force Users forever to get anywhere near as powerful as Vader or the Emperor.

If anything the prequels and Clone Wars taught us that the Jedi were corrupt and so too were the Sith. I am sure Luke knows this, and has decided to let the Jedi order die with him.

But his assumptions are wrong. The Sith somehow return, and he comes to realize that the Jedi order must also return to keep the peace.

If we get a character named Jek Harrisoon who isn't all that he seems, I'm walking outta the theater.
