I really don't understand not doing a commentary. Is it that hard to set down for a couple hours and discuss your film? If its a small movie and the studio doesn't want to pay for one. Ok that i get but all major films should have commentaries. Last edited by Cook; 09-28-2012 at 05:34 PM. |

I, for one, was unhappy with the movie in IMAX altogether. And here's why. The scenes shot in IMAX were breathtakingly spectacular. Amazing detail, fantastic clarity, the "hugeness" of it... it was awesome. But when the movie would shift to the 2.39:1 ratio, the picture would lose its clarity and detail. It was akin to watching a movie that shifted between SD and HD. My experience at a regular cinema was much more enjoyable in the fact that the picture quality remained the same from beginning to end. I wish Nolan would have shot all in IMAX or not at all. One or the other. Again, this is just my 2 cents. |

Some director's just don't like to do it. It's a choice they make. I understand not wanting to talk about my own film. Let the audience decide. And the commentary on the Avengers is barely passable, if you can stand Joss Whedon's ego seeping through the damn speakers on that one. One and only time I'll listen to that commentary again. |

Are you kidding, Joss Whedon's ego? What ego? The man constantly riffs on himself and has a self deprecating humor and is complimenting his cast and crew throughout the entirity of the commentary. He even calls out his own failures. And riffs on the stupidity throughout the film especially the chitari dying when the mothership is destroyed. He calls out his mistakes. He mentions his editors, composer, DP, set designer, and a number of other crew members specifically by name on multiple occassions. Talks about the ideas and help Marvel contributed to the film. The hard work and ways his cast went out of their way to get things done, and discusses the actor's input on the characters. Either you haven't actually listened to the commentary or you have and this is just some childish anti-joss whedon Batman's better fanboy kick. Last edited by Cook; 09-28-2012 at 06:37 PM. |

Listening to him solo on the commentary just confirmed my theory about the guy. And director's who are anti-commentary? I just don't understand why that has to be a must on a disc. Some like for the film to stand for itself with the audience member engaging with the film without the answers. Completely justified. |

One thing us for sure; he's not a good director, in terms of visual. Let's hope he ups his game big time for Avengers 2. |

I disagree. I've pretty much LOVED almost every movie he's directed... Nolan on the other hand. it's a 50/50 thing

LOL. You've only seen The Avengers and your judging his visuals. First, The Avengers looked fine. Second, if you don't like the visuals then watch Serenity and THEN judge his visuals. That film looked incredible.

Not to mention Dollhouse and Cabin in the Woods. A couple of these guys (especially Michael Bay) can make the most mundane environments look beautiful with lighting, color grading and the usage of shadows.

In terms of framing and composition from the Avengers, Whedon needs to go back to school. Seriously. Anyone who has seen Inception, Memento, and especially the Prestige and says Nolan's not a great visual storyteller is completely off their rocker. His and Wally's Batman work is just as great, with Rises being their crowing visual achievement of the trilogy. |
