Re: KENNY int'l rights, he didn't say. You may be right, since that Japanese KENNY Blu doesn't have Fox branding on it, from what I understand.
Didn't discuss JIM, but my gut says it's still with Uni. Quote:

A company called Toho-Towa were the ones who handled distribution of Kenny and Co in Japan (called Boys Boys). The JPN BD was put out by a firm called Happinet, but used a HD transfer seemingly supplied by Fox and opens with their logo.

Yeah, in the event that a previous Blu-ray iteration could be exponentially improved upon and it's deemed a major enough title, that's a place for that rule to be broken.

Tomorrow (1972) was part of the Castle Hill/Westchester Films catalog that ended up with Shout Factory. Since Shout seems to be licencing out the more obscure/lesser titles they own, I suspect ether Criterion, Cohen, or Scorpion/Code Red/Kino will take a shot at it.

Given that Kino has released Horton Foote’s The Trip to Bountiful, I wouldn’t be surprised if they went for this. |

Is there a specific type of film or underlying ethos you look for when deciding on FCE titles? So far my impression is a focus on quality material with a thoughtful and open filmmaking style often in the indie vein, though perhaps more because of that funding style being more open to that type of filmmaking style.

The budget level of a film is really not a consideration. Whether it's indie vs. studio is only a consideration in relation to what is available or unavailable to us for license.

It’s a white whale that many labels would love to get and have tried for. The rights holder is not a traditional film company, but a much larger multinational corporation, and my understanding from those who have gotten a toe in the door, is that film sub-licensing is way too small potatoes for them to bother with.

My big box of VS goodies arrived yesterday, and strangely enough I've been digging into the partner label discs first. Really digging Walking the Edge. I love that Fun City is bringing a number of different types of films to the table, including many that I ordinarily wouldn't have been exposed to.
Edit: The more I hear of it, the more the score to Walking the Edge grabs me... If this got released on LP, I would grab it immediately. If you get the chance, check out the interview with Jay Chattaway about scoring the film. You'll be surprised where he's broadcasting from. ![]() Last edited by defile959; 06-06-2021 at 10:58 PM. |

I finally got around to watching Alphabet City last night. I had a feeling I'd enjoy it since the trailer interested me and it was getting positive reviews from a variety of people on here, but it didn't disappear. It just had such a cool 'vibe' to it.
Can't wait to check out I Start Counting tonight... Also loving that the FCE releases feature original theatrical artwork on the reverse cover. I've flipped them over so they compliment the slipcovers nicely. |

@jah13, Apologies if you've gotten this a lot. But I was wondering since you have some releases utilizing 4K masters, are there any plans to do UHD releases in the future, or is FCE just sticking to BR only?

Unfortunately, Jay doesn't know where the tapes for his WALKING THE EDGE score ended up; same goes for VIGILANTE.

UHD discs could be a thing for us, yes. Obviously, it depends on the film and on the source elements and restoration workflow.
