They are especially heinous when 2+ movies are shipped in one of them.

It’s not really Target it’s Alliance Entertainment, who is also used by Walmart and formerly used by BestBuy. Alliance also has various storefronts of their own like DeepDiscount. Almost anything besides Amazon comes from just a few warehouses (only 2 in my experience but there’s at least 1 more near the east coast).

Yep, finally got Foul Play and another movie, but both were foot-stamp-crushed! Pathetic!!

There was a time when we could go to the store, pick out the best slipcover, or wait and get the cheapest price and take a chance not getting a slipcover.

But if a movie was released in the same year as BF, generally all those movies in the shippers had slips.

Returns were relatively simple, just go to the store and there was usually plenty of stock
for replacement.

Limited Pre-Order sold out Steelbooks for the most part would be available for one more shot the night before release.

Those days are gone.

I've had many, many discs arrive in these, either singly or up to three discs in one package.
Most of the time, things have been fine.

The order that put me over the top for the last circle rewards arrived two days ago, and the the case has a nice crunch in the middle. The slip is creased and the case itself is bowed.
I've cooled a bit on the movie itself and would rather just return it for a refund, but that will probably void the $15 in rewards. The other option, which I just did a couple weeks ago for some other damaged orders, would be to order the same title again, hope it arrives in better shape, then return the damaged one as the newer purchase.

Today I got something in from DD, also in the panini packing, and it too has some minor creasing in the middle of the spine.

I recently got a box from Target that was just two movies. I don't know what made them use a box. But something else came in the sticky cardboard packaging. Must've just had a smart person packing that day lol

I also haven't figured out their reasoning when it comes to steelbooks. They stick a little cardboard piece to help with protection, but why just the one side? That makes no sense. Frankly, it should be a piece on each side and for all media, not just steelbooks.

The one sheet is a headscratcher for sure. I assume either it's more to do with the packaging process than protecting the item in transit, or there's something about the sorting machines used somewhere along the line that's particularly hard on one side more than the other. It might pay to take note of which side gets the cardboard, the label side or the bottom, to see if there's any consistency or if it's just random.

Small Soldiers UHD arrived yesterday that way, but I didn't pay attention to which side it was on. The really crazy thing was that I got an out for delivery notice that I dismissed, figuring it was flagged wrong by UPS, being Sunday, the fact that it wasn't due until Weds and it was out for delivery about two hours away in another state. Late that afternoon a car pulled in with a woman and some younger adults or kids, like they were out for a family day trip. Amazon sends out cars all the time, but never from that far away. And the USPS does it occasionally. But that's a first for UPS for us, especially when it didn't even come from our state much less our local hub.

When Alliance switched to shipping steelbooks using ravioli mailers they initially were putting pieces of cardboard on each side of the steelbook. I recall getting a couple of steelbooks that way before they switched to using only one piece. I can only assume that they’ve determined that it is more cost effective to put the cardboard on only one side and that removing the second one doesn’t lead to a significant increase in damaged returns. But I don’t know that for sure. Ravioli mailers have been surprisingly reliable for steelbooks but are awful for slipcovers.

They've already calculated the damage to steelbooks/digibooks/regular cases vs using the cheapest packaging possible. I can only assume the savings far outweigh the cost of returned damaged movies.

They sell those to secondary dealers who put them up on ebay. At least Target no longer has to worry about damaged exclusive digibooks. I don't think Target does that many exclusive movies anymore which is another sign where the industry is going.

In the heyday, I used to buy both the digibook and the steelbook from Target and Best Buy and sometimes if the slip was nice I'd buy it on BF. Obsessive Collecting Disorder

They've determined wrong, the side that doesn't have the cardboard has usually been damaged for me lol

If they did it for slipcovers it might help a well, it seems like the case slides out of them and then the tight seal crushes the part that has no case in it.

Final Destination 4K arrived a day early. Been a while since I got a Target pre-order ahead of street date.

Effective July 28th, Target will no longer price match any competitors' prices. They will only price match Target in-store/online prices.

We received two preorders ahead of schedule this week too: Ash came in Monday, Small Soldiers Sunday. Both due Weds and Thurs respectively. It might have something to do with UPS' restructuring. Of course, neither package was handed off to the USPS. Ash's slip didn't slide off the case when put in the ravioli flypaper for once.

Well, boo. I price match somewhat regularly, so I'll miss having that as an option.

I got a package from the last sale and my Legend of the 8 Samurai also got damaged from Target's cardboard flap packaging. They weren't lined up properly in the package and the top movie put a huge dent in the slipcover. I'm not one to complain about a bit of damage, but this is a bit much. Unfortunately, I can only get a refund and not an exchange for that title which is going to make my $10 reward disappear. Might just keep it, unless the case is mangled underneath

They were last man standing.

It became a pain in the a$$ for the big box stores. Walmart stopped years ago.

For out of stock items that target can't do an exchange on, it sometimes pays to wait toward the end of the return window to make a decision. If they get more stock within the return window, your options should update, allowing for exchange as well. Which there is a "notify me when it's back" button on the item page, so that's a good sign target may expect to resupply.
