This also includes the Sound which is in the Codec like on Disc. Combine that with the new Codec H.265 with Adaptive Streaming, and you have a lot more than convenience in Digital HD.
Streaming bitrates on average are only about 1/3 that of disc. That is going to have a noticeable effect on quality.

Yes Streaming Bitrates use to be very low to accommodate people with limited Bandwidth. That has changed with the high end Streaming Providers, at the beginning of the year they were up to 16Mbps and I'm sure by now it's above this. The Streaming Providers that will last want to give Disc Quality.

If you're not sure, just keep repeating it until you are.

And what about the limitations of ISP's? The smallest pipe in the chain is what determines quality. My so-called gigabit service only gets about 300MB in practice and I could swear when I watch a streaming movie, they start throttling it about an hour in.

And don't think this won't get worse if Congress doesn't stop the FCC from killing Net Neutrality.

And the reality is that most people don't give a crap about quality. That's why up until very recently, DVD outsold BD. Even today, only the top 15 titles with the largest Blu-ray share sell more on Blu-ray than DVD.

All streaming is highly compressed. I'd like to see some studies on perceived image quality on a UHD stream vs. a 1080p stream due to the increased compression on a UHD stream.

But let's say everything you argue is true and accurate. Why are you here? This is a Blu-ray site. I'm sure you can find a site that promotes streaming.

I often thought this as well. Why are digital and streaming devotees frequent visitors to a site specifically devoted to physical media?

Seriously not trying to be a jerk, just curious. It would be like me going to a site dedicated to the theatrical distribution of movies and constantly posting about how viewing movies at home is better. Why wouldn't I just find a site tailored to my interests?

We were on the Digital side, but the Moderators moved this Thread to this side. To answer your question, how are you Streaming Wireless or Hardwired and with what Streaming Device?

They come here sniffing around for the free codes that many disc owners give away.

Speaking of which, I just got a 3D title that I imported from Amazon.uk that includes a code. Will that code even work here in the U.S.? Just curious.

The same board that has a digital deals section? Movie discussion sections? and numerous other things independent of disc or digital in general like audio and television sections?

You’ve been a member for going on 4 years and have 49 posts, you aren’t exactly burning the place up with activity. Under your theory the IMDB posters who popped over should bounce if they don’t buy disc and not bring in traffic or ad revenue because the name of the website doesn’t fit their day to day consumption. That’s stupid.

I said site, not discussion boards. I would assume that in order for someone to visit "blu-ray.com" they would have an interest in blu-ray discs. Yes, there are other topics in the discussion board, but one would have to visit the site first to see them. I was curious why individuals not interested in physical media would visit a site that from all outward appearances is devoted to physical media.

My number of posts or activity is irrelevant to the conversation. I generally only contribute if I have something to add to the discussion or a question. I see no need to fill up threads if I have nothing to say.

If you google “Textless Movie Posters” the board comes up. “Digital Code Deals”, the board and main page set for UV comes up. You want a film review, the board comes up. “Film Disccusion Boards” links over. All independent of buying discs or looking for discs. I’m sure the board owner is cool with that given the traffic and ads.

That said, who cares? Is someone not allowed to express opposing views on a topic if they feel the need to? Debate doesn’t go very far if it’s just one sided agreement and chin nodding to each other.

I am guessing, there are probably some people who visited this site because they used to buy Blu-Ray's. Then maybe they decided to switch over to digital only. So they just stuck around here and visited just the digital movies or digital deals discussion board.

This thread used to be in the digital forum before it was moved. So I am guessing alchav21 was visiting that forum and saw this thread and started posting in it. Then this thread was moved, and he just kept posting.

Anyway, this thread is getting off topic.

You obviously have trouble understanding the purpose of a question. I simply asked why someone who had no interest in physical media felt the need to come to a site devoted to physical media and then tell everyone how streaming is so much better. I was not being sarcastic or attempting to demean anyone's position. It was a genuine question.

I am all for healthy debate. As you can see I redeem my digital codes, so I am not against streaming. I prefer disc for the tangible ownership and the increased quality, but have no problem streaming a movie for convenience.

You are the one getting combative and defensive over a simple question.

Agreed. I wasn't trying to derail the board and had I known my inquiry would lead to an argument I wouldn't have posted. Moving on...

Well I have been on this Site since 2009, like ZoetMB, and Blu-ray was at its Prime. Technology moves on, and we are into a New Era. Basically it's all Digital, and Discs are just a Storage Device you Bitstream from a Player or Server on the Internet. In either case Quality has to do with Bitrate and Bandwidth. Streaming is very dependent on your ISP, Streaming Provider, and equipment set up.

I'm so not going to engage the whole, "We're a BD forum right?" debacle. **** it, yeah, I am. I could totally understand when I first joined the forum, but as Groot said, the tech (and forum) has (have) evolved and expanded through the years since then. Please don't give us the same old same old, you have to be hard wired, fiber optic bullshit alchav21. Because that's not entirely true either.

My family and I are wireless with most of our devices via Xfinity. We've had no issues despite our devices being in multiple areas of our 2 story house. So I kind of feel like you get what you pay for when it comes to the internet too. Here's one for you that I've been kicking around. How many of you game on a console? Are you strictly physical or will you download a copy of the game if the price is right?
