Despite already owning the Fury Road Best Buy steelbook, I snagged this set today at a local pawn shop for $10

WOWZA! And I thought I got a good deal at $19 for a (perfect) used copy (with download code) on Amazon.

Good score!

Is the black & white version a gimmick or does it really have merits over the color version? I can understand a b&w version of The Mist because it plays out like some 50's monster movie, but this... I dunno.

I think it has some merits. Frankly, it probably works better with the isolated score that it was supposed to have, but WB cheaped out and we're stuck with the standard soundtrack. As it stands, though, it achieves a similar sort of heightened, abstracted experience as the original, just through the exact opposite means. I also felt like there was more detail, but maybe that's just because of the encoding on the BD or something. I enjoyed it, but it's not what I'd call a must-see. If you can get it for cheap, then go right ahead, but I'm not sure it's worth a double-dip otherwise.

If it helps, Caps-a-holic has a comparison of the color and Black and Chrome versions: http://www.caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1...d2=9542&c=3852

It's definitely worth having. Even though I prefer the theatrical color version I like the black & chrome version as well. Let me know if you want screen captures of it and I will post some today.

It just comes down to if you have a thing for black and white photography, surely.

This is (was?) at a good price at Amazon for 47.99. I just PM'ed at Best Buy but of course they had spider packaging on them!

I'm 52 minutes into the first Mad Max and so far it sucks. I'm hoping it gets better soon, but right now it's terrible.

Until just now, I've only ever seen Beyond Thunderdome and Fury Road. I just got this boxset in the mail yesterday and I'm currently watching Mad Max. After that I'll watch Road Warrior. Then I'll have seen them all.

Saying it sucks and just leave it at that is worth nothing. Name your reasons for not liking it. And why the hell do you post your thoughts on that movie midway through?! Just watch the damn thing in its entirety... then post your opinion on it.

I said "so far it sucks" as in up to this point; 52 minutes into it. What I didn't like about it was the lack of a story. It was just one action scene after another.

It took until the one hour mark, but it's getting interesting now.

I just finished. I liked the last half hour but still think the first hour was boring.

You'll probably enjoy The Road Warrior more, the first Mad Max is simple, and very low budget. I think it's cool, I love the car stunts

I'm the weirdo who prefers the first one to the second. It's gritty, low-budget, and grounded (no outlandish post-apocalyptic punks yet). Beyond Thunderdome is my least favorite.

I can't stand Beyond Thunderdome, it's too Spielberg for my liking

Only MAD MAX and MAD MAX 2 for me. THUNDERDOME is sh*t, nice cinematography, though. Haven't seen FURY ROAD yet.

I won't be buying any box sets of the films until they start getting serious and release some REAL supplements - big ass feature-length documentaries, behind-the-scenes footage and deleted scenes.

A big box set with plenty of supplements - like the ALIEN ANTHOLOGY or BLADE RUNNER box-sets would be appreciated.
