As much as I love this movie, I'd love to see a 2 hour cut for curiosity sake.

Please no. It is absolutely perfect just as it is.

seriously, that might increase the replay value for me as i have no desire to rewatch this ever unless it was on TBS and i was bored. It's WAYYYY too long and have much more potential within the Island itself.

Kong SKull Island was horrible also.

It's really a shame that Alien vs Predator or King Kong Godzilla never really got to the epic levels they could have been.

I remember being so excited for ALien vs Predator and it was terrible.
Also the recent Godzilla was good but could have been way more epic also.

I'd like to see a shorter version. The long winded narrative of the actors and Jack Black doesn't do anything for me at all but I do enjoy peter jacksons obvious love and passion. The UHD is fantastic I just wish I enjoyed the film more.

Jackson actually said that if he were ever given the chance to recut the film (not just lump a few extra scenes in for the sake of making an EE) he'd make it shorter, not longer.

This movie has always been about 40 minutes too long. It suffers from Jackson's penchant for verbosity at the expense of pacing. The TREX Fight imho is three times as long as needed. The pacing in the 1933 film s FAR superior.

Also ... The transfer/timing of this version of the film is not great. The contrast is pushed so hard it is distracting ... the jungle scenes have so much forced detail is nauseating. The increased resolution reveals problems with some of the comps as well. See the scene where Watts is first attempting to escape from Kong. Also the Opening sequence highlights are far to bright.

I am watching this on a Sony Master Series 65" A9F through a Pioneer LX-500

I like this idea. Though i'd still have to keep my steelbook because its beautiful. Better pacing would save the movie for me.

CGI aside, the island stuff is by far the best stuff in the movie, so I'd probably just watch that.

I'd a go at a fan-cut, when it came out on DVD many moons ago.

I gutted it. Things like the entire intro were gone. It cuts directly to Denholm in the screening room after the title card. I think I got it down to around two hours.

- did you end up editing any or the brontosaurus chase or trex fight ? In my mind both were waaaaayyyy too long.

If memory serves correctly, it was more the bronto chase that was whittled down.

I was doing this on a basic laptop, so I was hesitant to cut into score and have jumps in the audio.

Just picked this one up in high def for the first time tonight. I'll never forget watching it with my then girlfriend and her grandmother, who is now deceased. Just when I thought the movie was over, it kept going and going. The laughs and giggles from her grandmother is a great enough memory for me to purchase this.

Purchased the VUDU version of this after reading the review here and man was I disappointed. It looks like there is some heavy edge enhancement. It's really distracting. I tried the iTunes version, same thing. Has anyone compared the disc version to the digital version?

I have always loved the lenght of this, it takes its time and feel like good old adventure film and real adventure to far away island... Nowdays it feels bit that many films are in so hurry to get to the cgi action

How did you think exactly the movie was over if Kong wasn’t dead? The movie is over 90 seconds after he falls.

I watched this yesterday after not having seen it for a few years and still really enjoyed it. I agree that Jackson got too carried away at times making the runtime unnecessarily long especially with the extended cut which is the one I prefer. I noticed it's mostly with certain effects scenes he gets carried away with and not so much dialogue/character moments. There's some shockingly bad CGI/blue screen moments too that took me out of the film unfortunately. The main problematic scenes for me are the Brontosaurus stampede and the insect scene.

No it was easy before. Just felt like it was coming to a close, but didn't

I think the only scenes that could always have done with more time for vfx are the compositing of the live actors in the bronto chase and the compositing of Ann during some of the scenes with Kong holding her. The rest of the CG was leagues ahead of anything else at the time. Those vfx artists react guys even said the CG was ahead of it's time, they just needed more time with compositing, which is also the issue with some of the LOTR fx shots, such as Merry and Pippin on Treebeard.

I agree that most of the CGI looks great/incredible. I also agree that Ann riding on Kong's shoulder looks pretty bad. To be fair, for the most part, the insect scene looks fine. It just goes on too long and the part when Bruce Baxter swings on the vine shooting his machine gun is terrible IMO with or without the blue screen. The T-Rex fight is fabulous though as well as the New York scenes.
