I thought this looked EXCELLENT, so I have no idea what people are complaining about.

I had seen the 50s movie way back on cable years ago and really enjoyed it. I never saw this until buying this release. It was fantastic. I really like Donald Sutherland, and he did not disappoint in this. I feel like 4K really brings a lot more depth and immersion for older movies. I hope we keep getting more releases of old films.

I think people in here have done a pretty good job explaining the issue, with screenshots and everything. Is the master good? Yep, it's amazing. That doesn't mean the encode is good. Those are two separate things. Same as the Halloween UHDs by Shout. Fantastic remasters, lousy encodes (complete with a video glitch on Halloween II in Shout's case).

Unfortunately at the end of the day no matter how many times it is explained, there are people who don't pick up on it and instead of stating they don't notice claim nothing is wrong or others are exaggerating. Also "complaining" and other such misrepresentation of character. So that's the play of the game and how it will be.

Well if you didn’t see anything wrong, then the disc must’ve been perfect!

Was about to buy this earlier today and then the price went up to $27.99. I checked later and it's gone back down to being 50¢ less than it was earlier in the day and is now $20.49 so I got my order in and it shows up tomorrow.

Finally watched this yesterday. Thought it looked great overall, but I did notice some slight flickering during the darkner scenes. Not as bad as something like Studio Canal's The Fog, but noticeable. Watched it in DV and my player is an LG, not the infamous Panasonic!

There's what looks like some gentle density flutter inherent to the darker scenes rather than a player-oriented flicker, this is where the film itself has slightly different chemistry from frame to frame and so it exposes slightly differently. For brighter scenes the effect is often imperceptible but in darker scenes it can be more pronounced. Some studios like to flatten out this discrepancy when doing restorations, some don't.

It shouldn't ever be a big distraction in itself but the problem with some displays can stem from how they handle near-black and how sensitive their processing is to these shifts in brightness, however minor. There is also the separate DV flashing issue on top!

Thanks! Didn't know that. What's the DV flashing issue?

DV can have a very visible flicker/flashing on some combinations of players and TVs.

Any brands that are particularly susceptible to it?

Well, mine came with a slipcover but damaged so Amazon will be sending out a replacement.

Target doesn't even offer the item now. They only have the standard Blu-ray.
