The size of the collection is irrelevant; only that losing a larger collection is a bigger kick in the nuts. People standing in line to get rid of whatever, is also irrelevant to the digital discussion. If history has taught us anything, it's that people on the whole are stupid. I watched when BBY started selling cds for $9.99 and people stood in line to sell vinyl. Now they're buying vinyl, standing in line to sell the cds they bought. Bottom line is show me a crack addict, I'll show you a collection for sale.

Maybe the same thing will happen with physical movies? Who knows? I agree digital is easy to pull up and get playing. You're well aware part of the problem is we don't actually own it even though we've paid for it. It could get scrubbed any day. Itunes is probably safe, at least for now. But profit/loss is examined everyday. Look at paramount getting bought out recently. Warner circles the drain. Who knows what decision will be made in the future?

Another interesting point is when movies are upgraded automatically. Take a look at the "new" CROCODILE DUNDEE: THE ENCORE CUT. You redeemed your code or buy the other version. Does this automatically get upgraded to this new version? What if they decide it should, and so it does? What can you do about it? You could send off an email shouting how you don't like it. But you're still stuck. So we don't own it, we don't control it.
I agree there's room for a digital collection. I'm not totally against it. I'm not worried about it. I've considered it and moved on. But Fail Safe, I think not.
I'm in total agreement with you. I've bought some digital movies and redeemed a few other codes because they version of the movie I wanted was only available as a digital copy, but the total lack of any control over it has put me firmly against actually spending substantial money on a digital collection.

It's amusing that iTunes was brought up as a safe bet as the first time I read of anyone actually removing movies from accounts was iTunes/Apple and they basically came out with a statement that said, read the fine print, it happens. For me, I've had the negative consequences of the digital ownership hit me. I bought Spider-Man: Far From Home for the expanded ratio, but when FandangoNOW shut down, I lost access to that version completely. I have a spreadsheet that I keep just so I know what movie to watch in what App as not all of them have my full collection displayed or offer features like Atmos.

On the flip side, owners of Batman v. Superman who wanted the new corrected color and IMAX ratio, they got it for free while disc owners had to buy the disc and double dip for it. Of course, if you didn't want it, they pulled a U2 and gave it to you anyways and removed your ability to watch the old version.

It just ain't worth the 'convenience' of it to have to keep track of it like that and also wonder if I lost a movie or a movie is just no longer available on said service. I agree that there are positives to it, but just ain't worth truly supporting it when I have zero control over it and simply have to rely on the decisions of corporations that don't care.

I do digital for some movies, but the ones I get are usually in the $5-10 range. For example, I paid $5 for the new 4K transfer of Tombstone instead of buying a $30-40 steelbook. I also still have my Directors Cut DVD.

I like my physical collection, but I will say I’m frustrated with the 4K Bluray format. Never had I had to deal with so many problems with glitches and skipping parts on DVD or Bluray. I have discs that work perfect the first time and then will screw up at some point the next for no reason I can figure out. It’s a small percentage of my collection so far, but it’s been enough that it’s taken away my confidence in the longevity of the format. I always wonder which disc will suddenly stop playing correctly next time.

Thank you for your corrections, taking the time to dissect my post and for pointing out my inconsistencies.

Bottom Line: Digital is great, I'm not worried about it.

Target keeps delaying my Thunderbolts Steelbook preorder. It's now delayed to September 10th. Assuming they're gonna cancel it. I got it on sale with the B2G1. So I'd have to pay at least an additional $10 to get it elsewhere. Bleh.

I am right there with you. A week ago we were watching The Fugitive on 4K. It started skipping right around the 32 minute mark. Took the disc out and saw no scratches. Tried it again and it kept skipping. We finished the movie on digital. Bit of a drop in quality, but at least it played.

Still going to collect more 4Ks anyhow. Looking at Target’s prices though and WOW! I think buying on a B2G1 will yield the regular price of the 4K if I bought from Amazon or Walmart. Been keeping track of eBay storefronts too. Many coupons to be found from reputable sellers. Just snagged How to Train Your Dragon remake sealed for $20 shipped on eBay. It came with a pristine slip too.

BTW: Tried The Fugitive again a few days later and no skipping to be found. Go figure.

I used to sell all of my codes. Now, with all the playback issues I hear about (haven't experienced many at all to be honest) and experiences of "disc rot," I redeem all codes!

It's nice to have that backup in case there's an issue with the 4k disc.

I received a broken disc tray (3-discs) for my Wednesday first season DVD. The discs are fine, though. I don’t have the energy to complain about this to Target.

This was a filler, so I could get free shipping. I will see if I have another case for it. Otherwise, I’m not bothered by it.

Twice now, I've put movies in my cart and tried to check out. Target is not applying the 5% Red Card discount, nor are they applying free shipping.

Has anyone experienced this?

I had a similar issue with Elio Steelbook. It didn't apply the 5% no matter what I did and it clearly was working with other items. It fixed itself a few days later and I was able to purchase with my discount.

It was happening with preorders. Then it was okay. Then it messed up again.

It's a major pain in the ass, but if you need to order something right away, their online customer service will credit the free sipping and 5% discount after the fact. I went through it twice.

I had to do the same. Unfortunately, they simply credit you 5% off the price of the item and remove shipping. The taxes have already been calculated and you’re still paying tax on the original amount, not the less 5% amount.

What the hell is wrong with this company? It took them almost 10 days to fix the $5.99 shipping charge / no 5% Target Circle Card discount issue with preorders the last time, and that was only two weeks ago. If their system is doing this again so soon either they are grossly incompetent, or they don't mind losing customers in droves over an insanely heinous policy change. It's likely just incompetence, but between this issue reappearing again so soon and the enormous number of beaten-to-hell corrugated mailers I've been receiving from them over the past 2-3 months, I'm just about done buying movies at Target. It is constant misery having to deal with their poor customer service agents, trying to get glitches fixed and damaged items replaced.

Got a spend $300 (accumulative) to get $30 in the next 20 days deal.

They also must really want me to have Circle 360 because if I reach $199 in the next 20 days (I think the offer began a week ago) they'll give it to me.

I got nearly the same deal, except I need to spend $295.

I must be lucky- I got an offer of spend $80 get $10 in rewards. Earlier this month I got an offer for two $40+ orders to get $10 in rewards, and $5 off a $40+ order. I wonder how the system decides who gets what offers.

I hardly go there any more (vaccinations mostly), but have $10 leftover from some other deal probably back in April and this time it's spend $60 and get (another) $10. Guess I'll go check the t.p. supply…

I don't know what happened but my Target Circle Rewards just disappeared. I had $10 before but now it is showing $0. I got the $10 reward after spending $70 back in July and I haven't made a purchase since that time so I couldn't have mistakenly used it.
