I wish this wasn't so expensive. I understand it's two movies but my guess is 90% just want the original so forcing us to pay for the the one we don't want is a bit of a drag.

I think 90% is a bit exaggerated, and I think more people will want Fantasia 2000 than you think.

I think more of us want Fantasia 2000 than you know.

With the release date pricing and upgrade coupon it's basically free.

I'm in the camp of just wanting the original too. I'm just gonna use the DMR coupon and then sell off everything else in the case I don't want, which will make the original Fantasia blu free

so anyone else think that like every other movie that's listed initially at 34.99...it will drop to atleast 24.99 by release day? i mean look at ts3. that was at 34.99 for a while. now on release day today, most places have it for 24.99. and the dmr coupon is live if anyone wants to print their coupon now. im thinking after 10 dollar coupon and this dropping in price by release day, everyone should be able to pick this up under 15.

You're right I was exaggerating quite a bit there, personally I wouldn't mind having it (minus the CG whales). I was looking on Amazon it has it listed for $31.99 on sale from $45.99 and Best Buy has it listed for the same. If it drops down to $24.99 release week combined with the coupon I will be very happy. I'm more or less complaining due to how much money I've spent/will be spending through out the month of november (TS3, Fantasia, Scott Pilgrim, B&N Criterion sale, Alien Anthology).

boo hoo

European prices:

Fantasia Blu-ray + DVD: $35,-
Fantasia 2000 Blu-ray + DVD: $35,-
Beauty and the Beast 2BD + DVD: $35,-
Coupons: zero
release date for all of them: November 4., so there won't be any price dropping

So, please stop complaining about the (cheap!!) prices you have.

Same here. I've been so satisfied with the other titles I've bought from Disney that I feel okay going into this blind, especially with the coupon.

it'll be your favorite blind buy, i predict. I wish I could go back to when I watched Fantasia for the first time...

I've never seen F2000, though, so I'm excited to get it too

Does anyone know how this is packaged? Are the movies in individual cases? I could care less for F-2000. This way, I could dump it on eBay.

For the US release, it looks like a digipack.

And what's with all the hate for Fantasia 2000? It's a very enjoyable film. Granted it may not be as good or have the classic feel of the original, but it was never designed to be better. It was designed to continue with what Walt Disney had wanted to do many years earlier, which is for Fantasia to be a constantly changing film about music and animation. I think the late Roy Disney should be commended for trying to do fulfill Walt's original idea and for taking such a big risk.

And for talking Eisner out of his idea to be too faithful to "Walt's memos" and wipe the original out of existence...

Me, I have two non-negotiable "rules" criteria for any movie hoping to call itself a "Fantasia sequel":
1) It must have at least one segment that permanently retires the jersey and warps your ability to listen to the piece for life, like "Sorcerer's Apprentice", and
2) It must have at least one segment so intuitively brain-synched for concept, design, emotion of the music, and onscreen action that you inexplicably tear up every time, like "Ave Maria".

Rhapsody in Blue earned the first all-important make-or-break medal with such immediately flying colors that nobody even had to mention Shostakovich's toy soldiers...
And although which segment qualifies for 2) is subjective, let he who kept a dry eye by the end of Respighi's flying whales (or even the Lion-King beginning of Elgar) cast the first stone.

.....

There are no rules to making a 'Fantasia', but your preferences are pretty sound.

And, as I've said, I prefer Fantasia 2000, but I'll pick up both in a few years when these are cheaper. I never pay full price for BDs.
I agree with you in relation to most studios, but I find Disney/Pixar titles are usually really well priced on release day and then seem to never go on sale. I usually grab Disney/Pixar movies on release date now.
