Maybe the uk isnt ready for his Best. .. take a look at sales of stuff like sharknado...

Release a few shitty movies and ugly steelbooks and you will get your money 😊
Write something like epic bloody gore on the cover and you are good to go.

How did kotoko sell ?
Even bought one of her(cocco) cds from japan ☺

epic bloody gore on the cover like Lesson of Evil?

To be honest there just aren't enough retailers anymore to even shift epic bloody gore. Lesson of Evil is as extreme as you'd imagine and 5 years ago would easily ship thousands, but all of the HMVs across the UK are taking just 400 copies in total! And it's a limited edition with glossy slipcase at a regular retail price, so it's just not easy...

Hmm... Yeah, I understand it's hard... Hey, and what if you were to join forces with MoC? How about a double release with Ichikawa's Nobi for example? Wouldn't that be intriguing?

I think I can speak on behalf of many enthusiast here which are following this thread when I say, we are ready to jump on Kickstarter to have more Tsukamoto...

I second that (e)motion! An Italian review (far better written than The Guardian's, I must admit, but I've got no time to translate now...) speaks of the movie as a masterpiece. A double-feature release with Ichikawa's masterful flick would be even more appreciated, of course!

Criterion released Ichikawa's Fires on the Plain on DVD. It really is a remarkable film, one of the few war films that I find to be truly horrifying.

I think Third Window should kickstart a Miike boxset. Just the thought of it has gotten me all giddy.
It's a shame many of his films are still difficult to get hold of in English friendly versions.

i think this would require a similarly long wait i.e. Lesson of Evil to get release as it's handled by a super big french sales agent who require super massive MGs. They also handled Shield of Straw and their initial asking price for that was $250,000 (though obviously since it hasn't sold it's now considerably cheaper), though takes a long time to drop, and in that time most people would have bought the HK option I'd imagine?

how about realeasing something like this?

http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_d...2&LanguageID=0

Bilocation (Japanese Movie) (Blu-ray) (2014)

Starring : Asami Mizukawa, Kenichi Takito
Directed By : Mari Asato

Bilocation” is a supernatural phenomenon in which an individual appears in two different places at the same time, which has been reported historically worldwide. What if your alter ego exceeds your experience and ability? And what if he/she tries to prevent you from standing in the way of him/her? Can you accept it, or will you kill the other “you”? Bilocation depicts the nightmare of an alter ego that endangers not only your identity but also your very existence. It is an imaginative psychological thriller unlike anything you've ever seen.

Considering how most HK BDs are region locked, and expensive (unlike DVDs, which were cheap as hell, most BD releases have prices similar to some Japanese BDs, which is insane), I doubt it.

I sure didn't.

So, I take the price asked for Nobi's rights would be significantly higher than older Tsukamoto's movies?

But there's something to consider... The movie is getting a lot of buzz from his Venice show and, unlike Third Window's previous Tsukamoto releases, this would be an home video first. I can imagine that not everyone out there has upgraded his Tetsuo / Tetsuo II / Tokyo fist / Bullet Ballet old DVDs (though they certainly should have! :P)

Actually Kotoko won in Venice and was the only release w/eng subs in the world yet didn't sell well, and it's a much better than NOBI to be honest...

But of course I'll look into it

The first half of the film is awful, but 2nd half is quite good

Director used to be kiyoshi kurosawa's assistant director. Young female director

Though unfortunately half good won't cut it...

Maybe her next film will be better, hope so!

Any chances to see released two very good, recent flicks like Lee's Broken (DVD-only in Korea so far) and period drama The Face Reader (available on BD but all the extras are unsubbed...)?
Also White Night (2009), this too based on Higashino like Broken.
