That is Pioneer's entry model Kuro. It's a fine plasma...better than most others out there but lacks the ablility to enable ISF day/night settings such as the Elites/KRP( with controlcal installed). The 5020 does have speakers/stand and more outputs, though. The 500M is just a monitor and geared more for videophiles looking to get the most out of their display. They were previously being made for commercial uses where multiple inputs weren't needed. Like the screens you see on CNN behind the anchorman. The techies realized that by installing an ISF patch, you could enable ISF settings to calibrate them to the same performance as the Elite models for half the price (minus a few extra goodies most folks don't need). I would consider the 5020 if the 500M weren't so cheap and if I didn't already have an AV receiver to handle all my outputs. The KRP 500Ms are actually cheaper at some places. I don't see why anyone would care if their display had speakers in this price range. If you don't have at least a HTIB set, then I would be worrying more about audio than having the best plasma money can buy. But that's just me. |

About the firmware for the TVs, I just bought my 141FD, so how do I know if my firmware is up to date? I registered the TV on the Pioneer Canada website, but I am unable to access the special section for elite members on the American site as it won't recognize my serial number.

Sarge, sorry about the 500M.
![]() It's a bit ironic that you got the 600M with no problems but the 500M was damaged. I hope that it's all taken care of quickly. Was the 500M already broken-in and everything? |

Ok guys here is the latest- I got a call from Robert this morning and he said that they are shipping me another panel out today and it should be at R+L's terminal tomorrow. I am picking that damn thing up myself as well as bringing a flashlight. I am going to open up that Fing thing on the dock before I sign off on it. And if the don't like it too Fing bad! Robert was very cool about the whole situation. So, Thank you guys very much for all your support over the past couple of days!

Sorry to hear about the damaged Pioneer panel Sarge1976. I have installed 3 PRO-141FD's and 3 PRO-101FD's for family members in various parts of the country. All 6 Pioneers have arrived in perfect condition even the 3 that traveled thousands of miles. The mail order company the family members purchased the Pioneer's from is now all out of screens and they will not be getting anymore Pioneers in.
They all came on different carriers like Fex Ex freight and various others. They all had a wooden palette underneath that kept the Pioneer in good condition. With all the reports of broken screens I am surprised that my family members received all 6 screens in excellent condition. I have heard that sometimes the Pioneer screens get damaged on shipping from the Pioneer warehouse to the dealer. Other times the problem is the shipping carrier that is used to delivery the screens to the customer. Again sorry to hear your screen was damaged in shipping. Hopefully the replacement will arrive in perfect condition. Once and a while even buying Pioneer displays or other brand of screens from Best Buy arrive damaged.
