On the bright side, Rarewaves shipped The Draughtsman's Contract yesterday. It's been a long wait!

Thanks. That site has an efficient way of comparing screengrabs and has the clearest review concerning visual presentation. This BFI blu of The Last Metro is one I'm definitely going to get thanks to some of the advice I've gotten in this thread concerning the release.

But BFI aren't shipping it yet? Deeply unfair.

It could be even longer going by my recent orders that have supposedly shipped!

Yes, two weeks is the norm, I find; although when I bought a classical CD from them recently it arrived in three days

Mine still hasn't shipped from BFI direct, as far as I can tell. Or do they not send out shipping emails?

They do send out dispatch emails. Pre-Covid they used to send items out the week before release, but since then it's frequently been in release week. However, it looked like that had changed to early dispatch a couple of months back - will be a shame if they've reverted to release week once more.

I'm particularly bothered as a) it's going to take a while for it all to get to Australia and b) it's a bulk order I've been waiting almost all year to place because I knew Draughtsman's Contract was coming, so it's not just a case of wanting the one movie.

I'm only guessing but I presume the fact that all 4 of the BFI Truffaut BDs are already going for knock down prices on amazon and HMV does not augur well for more BFI releases of his films.

I'm awaiting the imminent Kino Lorber individual releases of The Bride Wore Black, Mississippi Mermaid and The Story of Adele H though I have the Twilight Time releases and also the 4 film box of the unreleased The Wild Child, Small Change, The Man Who Loved Women and The Green Room because I'm not anticipating BFI releases of any of them.

Most Truffaut fans will have already picked up the AE sets years ago so the only incentive to get these is for new extras/different transfers, which even at these prices I haven't been tempted by.

The criterion release of The Last Metro is excessively warm and honeyed and the AE is excessively bright on top. The BFI release looks just right. It's really well worth comparing the caps as posted here earlier. This is the one BFI Truffaut release I'm investing in.

That's what I feared would come to pass - all of the BFI's first wave were coverd either by the AE discs and/or Criterion's Region A releases; I just wish they had chosen at least a couple of films that hadn't already been covered elsewhere.

Most likely not. But they were released a decade ago by Artificial Eye and if I've got it right, the only one with a substantial uptick in quality is The Last Metro.

They would have likely shifted more copies if they'd released the Truffauts missing in the UK since DVD - Small Change, The Man Who Loved Women etc

The last I heard from Kino was that MGM had three and were waiting on the fourth, The Green Room, from the French distributor. That may be what's holding up Kino's release of all 7 titles which are scheduled for a 2022 release.
