The only counterpoint I have is that moviepass could have passed off renewing annual subcriptions as a liquidity or cashflow problem, which is legal (they'd also have to close the company shortly afterwards) instead of credit card fraud which is a trip to PMITA federal prison. Moviepass had a unique window of a few months where nearly 1.5 million people signed up after their $9.99 announcement.

The problem with my counterpoint is that moviepass is already doing all sorts of shady quasi-legal crap like renewing customers who cancelled, changing the T&C's every month, and switching annual customers to 3-movies monthly if they don't agree to the new monthly agreement within 4 weeks.

Don't forget automatically renewing some customers who opened their app after cancelling, on the basis that they opened the app.

On my iPhone I can press the home button to get out of the app, and when I return to the app it'll still be on that listing. If you exit out of the showtimes to another part of the MoviePass app, it will refresh to match all the changes they made.

Not really a trick used for going into a non-listed movie since they don't require a photo anymore although it can be used for that, but it's still helpful for getting the showtime you want since they're being jerks and removing times left and right.
On my Android phone, after opening the app and going to a particular theaters showtime page then when I'm ready to select a showtime the app is hung up and will not do anything. I then have to close the app (swipe it away) and reopen it before it will work again but by then there are no shows available

HMNY is spinning off MoviePass and related movie businesses into its own publicly traded company. Pretty clear from their statement, they are doing so because of how MP has become an albatross for the stock of the data firm (whose stock jumped after this, though of course still pathetically low)

Hah, MoviePass is doing the same crap again today. Only one showing of Goosebumps 2 at the majority of theaters.

I tried to buy tickets earlier today for the only showing available tonight and my card was declined as a “communication error” at the kiosk. The question is... was it declined because i was trying to use it at an AMC and AMC blocked it somehow, or was it because they have no more money to cover tickets, period?

The only reason I went to AMC in the first place was they sent me a free large popcorn coupon for my birthday and I wanted to use it before it expired. I usually hit up Regal for most of my filmgoing experiences, out of preference, rarely Cinemark, and only AMC if I absolutely have to.

It was $5 Tuesday so I didn’t mind paying out of pocket for “Goosebumps” and the free large popcorn lessened the blow of paying out of pocket too.

They updated the list of supported movies. What an absolute joke.

Indivisible (whatever the f*** that is) is supported every day.

London Fields (also, wtf is that?) is supported a lot. With The Guilty, Wildlife, Colette, and Can You Ever Forgive Me? rotating in and out.

When was the last time they asked you to take a photo of the ticket? You can just check into one of their allowed movies but by a ticket for a different show, if you'd rather give money to the movie you're actually seeing.

I checked into Goosebumps one lone showing at 6:35pm and bought a ticket for The Oath at 11:35pm, I truly do not give a single ****. I've got one month left on this trash pile of a company until my Annual is up and I am staying on A-List.

Man, that updated movie list for the next week. Woof.

Only way for me to see Mid90s is by checking into Colette tomorrow ONLY, because the theater is taking Colette out by Friday. Guess it’ll have to do. I’ll still have one slot left until the 19th.

Cancelled. After yesterday's "error" with my card, and seeing next week's lack of offerings, this is the end of the road. It was a good run though.

If they want to just support small indie films and such, fine. Do it. Actually that may be the better route for them. But they need to stop pretending to be a program people can use to see any movie or all the biggest hits, because, well, you can't.
