I don't like 2 and 3 enough to own them and I hated World so I am glad that I can buy the first film separate without having to wait a long time to enjoy it on UHD. |

"Video Codec: TBA Resolution: 4K (2160p) HDR: HDR10 Aspect ratio: 1.85:1 Original aspect ratio: 2.00:1 " Did Universal decide to open the mattes from 2.00:1 to 1.85:1 (since most of the film was shot on 4 perf 35mm) or is this a mistype? Could Universal and/or Colin Trevorrow have wanted to retroactively match the aspect ratio of the JP trilogy? I haven't yet seen Blu-ray.com make this kind of a mistake, yet. Anyone has any idea? |

I was extremely impressed with how the VFX held up in, say, Starship Troopers (which got a crisp new 4K transfer from Sony), in terms of both the actual VFX work itself and the subsequent film-out of it.
For what it's worth, although filmed-out digital VFX will have some sort of quality drop it's still minor compared to what optical VFX would usually have, for in that same Starship Troopers I believe all the laser blasts in the 'laser tag' scenes are done optically and it shows, the image becomes noticeably softer and the blacks lose a lot of shadow detail in those scenes. |
