I am with you on Valerian.

The problems with Jupiter start with the script. You can tell they were ripping pages from other scripts to fill out the story.

That movies script is a lesson for writers on how not to present a story.
Way to many characters. To many sub plots. To many ideas for a single movie.

Hate is a strong word to use,yes. I don’t think most of us mean it literally. Kind of like when we say "we’re going to kill the kids when they get home because of xxxxxx". We aren’t really going to kill them. .

If ever say I hate a movie it’s probably because of one of two things: either it was super hyped up and I felt it sucked. Or, it completely went in a direction that I had zero interest of going and pissed me off. Or a combination of the two.

Examples of the former: Apocalypse Now. I hate that movie. Hyped up boring crap.

Examples of latter: Alien 3. No effing thanks. Doesn’t exist.

In my opinion, the comedy genre has declined significantly. I see more goofiness and gags as opposed to intelligent humor and social satire.

Romantic comedies often require a larger suspension of disbelief than sci-fi.

I wish mysteries and noir detective movies would make a huge comeback.

Comedy needs to come from the indie market. The studios will avoid social satire.

So do people actually think Crash (2004) is a bad movie, or do people just say it's bad because it won Best Picture? I've never seen anyone say anything nice about it but I thought it was actually really good.

I think most of it is that they think it was undeserved. Brokeback Mountain was robbed basically. Even Haggis thinks it shouldn't have won.

"intelligent humor" and social satire takes too much of a political stand. You automatically cut your audience in half.
I agree with noir detective and mysteries, but it will probably be a little while.

Hellz yes! A good comedy should actually have a good story and be a solid movie too. The classics are just that. Now, there is zero reason to sit through almost any modern comedy when you can just watch the 30 second "gag" scene on YouTube and be done with it.
