Glad I held off buying. This is a terrible mistake.

It should be noted that the imdb post is talking about the UK version. I have not heard anything about the US version having this problem.

A poster in that thread says he has the US version and that it has the same problem.

Well that's mildly disturbing. Give me a minute and I'll check my copy out.

Okay just watched that whole scene. It's been awhile since I've watched Conan, but the choir was present as the riders were approaching the village, then faded for about 1-2 minutes then were back again when Conan's father was killed. Not sure if this was how it was supposed to sound or not.

This from HDD:

Quote:
"Best of all, the wickedly awesome music from Basil Poledouris is the real winner in the entire mix." WRONG! Pouledouris awesome score is ruined in this mix. Universal screwed up big time. The magnificent choral music has been deleted from both battles! First when Doom attacks the village after the ride in and second when Doom and his horsemen ride to attack Conan at the Mounds. The jackass who did this needs to be crucified on the tree of woe. Universal really needs to pull this blu ray off the market and FIX IT! Crom.

This from AVS Forum (in response to the above):

Quote:
It's true though not entirely accurate. The raid at the beginning does have the choir at the beginning and the end of the sequence -- it is missing from one section of it, however. Very strange.

This is disturbing! What in the world was Universal thinking? Any word on if the HK version has it missing as well? (Not too sure why it wouldn't be the same as these two tho)

That is too bad, I wonder how noticeable it is. Guess it is a good thing I didn't pick this up yet.

I noticed that the choir seemed lower in parts But i thought I could still hear them.

Now realize I know this music really well. I have listened to this soundtrack more then any other CD I own of any genre. So I can't tell if my mind is filling in the blanks. Without a doubt the choir is quieter. But I still hear them.

I know that helps in no way.

First, I'll just say I've seen the film many many times throughout the years (I'm sure we all have) and when I watched it last week, I didn't notice any missing musical cues.

Well, I just checked my UK BD and compared it with this youtube video I found of the first ten minutes of Conan. Which video edition this was ripped from is unknown to me.

Sure enough, the choir aspects has been dialed down or possibly all together disappeared for a few moments on my BD when compared to this video, who's source is unknown. Riding up to the village the choir was present, but once the attack actually begins, it seems to virtually disappear. As soon as the dogs run towards Conans father, the choir is once again present.

With the direct comparison between my BD and the above video it's obvious the choir is missing for those moments. The movie is by no means ruined all of a sudden, but it is odd and disappointing nonetheless.

Given the importance and beauty of the music in these scenes, I would rate it as a pretty major stuff up.

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Thanks for a comparison. I watched the movie tonight on dvd and listened to the music during the scenes discussed, but I do not own the blu-ray yet. I will just wait and rent it when I get the chance and then judge for myself.
