So I've had my tv and internet cancelled for a month of so now to save the amount in bills each month. I've been relying on friends, my collection, and the library for things to watch. The library has a massive collection of movies, but unfortunately most are DVD. Being that they are free to borrow DVD is OK with me. However I'm watching Get Smart and it is a Fullscreen DVD and I'm having a really really hard time getting past that. I can deal with the lower resolution just fine, but Fullscreen bugs the hell out of me. I have black bars on the sides and it's annoying because there is actually information missing. I don't understand why Fullscreen was ever a thing. Did nobody understand that to take a widescreen movie and make it Fullscreen you need to lose some of the information on the sides? Luckily this isn't a pan and scan though....Those should be burned.
Just a small venting a guess. I really shouldn't complain though because it is free. It's a nice library with nice people that work there. Maybe when I get the money though I'll get them a normal widescreen copy haha. |

It just occurred to me, while looking at a recent pic of Leonard Maltin, that he looks almost exactly the same now as he did in 1996.

I don't understand why people lie about things for attention. Especially when it takes like two seconds of fact checking to see they aren't telling the truth. It's very weird to me. What's the point?

I also remember reading a local interview about 2 years ago where the library board members here said that they don't think much of blu-rays and that they're still just a "fad". I mean, WTF? Really gets my blood boiling that one of the largest library systems in the world (if not the largest) is so backwards in their POV about blu-rays. Last edited by llj; 12-19-2016 at 04:50 PM. |

And if you find it unbelievable that BDs would get tossed, I can tell you that back when I was working in Blockbusters (waaay back in the day), many perfectly working DVDs would get tossed when they scaled back the new releases. They don't always ship them off or donate them or sell them at discount prices, especially if the discount disc bin is ALREADY full. Sometimes if you need to make room it's just easier and faster to toss them. Some EB Games/Gamestop outlets also have a habit of tossing games in the garbage when they need to scale back a section in the store. They don't sell ALL their unsold games. I remember a friend of mine who worked at EB Games once showed me a whole bin full of perfectly working games that was going to go to the dump or being prepared to be "destroyed" by the employees. I'm talking like a 100 games in the bin. This is apparently standard practice. http://ca.ign.com/articles/2014/03/0...umpster-diving So forgive me if I'm a bit cynical, having seen how many places would toss perfectly working merchandise just because they couldn't be bothered with reselling them or sending them elsewhere. And logically...where in the world would the library send their loose blu-ray discs if they're not going to use them? Even Goodwill centres don't always take loose discs. We're an incredibly wasteful society. Last edited by llj; 12-19-2016 at 11:01 PM. |
